In the latest “people-are-doing-what?” semi-viral Internet craze, TikTok users have been gluing their lips to make them look fuller and—as expected—the posts are rather perplexing.
As first reported on by PopBuzz, TikTok user @chloehammock4 started the craze by sharing a video showing her applying glue to her Cupid’s-bow and then “sticking” her upper lip to it. She the tops it off with some Kylie Cosmetics Liquid Lipstick, natch.

The post has since received more than 7 million views, as well as a whole bunch of copycats.
As expected, Santa Monica dermatologist Ava Shamban, MD says this move hits the not-a-good-idea-at-all list. “Using adhesive of any kind in this fashion can lead to a disaster. Chemicals can burn, damage or otherwise tear the skin. The temporary ‘lip lift benefit’ for social media could sadly be overshadowed by the negative residual effects,” she says summing it up with: “Safety before vanity.”
Brookline, MA dermatologist Papri Sarkar, MD is also not on board. “What they’re trying to achieve is a Botox lip lift, which everts your upper lip to give you more upper lip show. The problem is that it’s really common to have allergic reactions to adhesives like SuperGlue and SuperGlue heats up when you apply it. If you apply it to your lips by mistake, you can give yourself a burn.”
Also, as Dr. Sarkar points out, SuperGlue works really well. “So, if you want to get rid of that look quickly, you can rip the skin and give yourself a scar—an open area that can get infected and a host of other problems.”
“It would be awfully embarrassing to explain that.”
