Whether you spend hours or a few minutes on TikTok, you’ve probably noticed that nostalgic filters have been dominating your FYP. While AI filters are nothing new to the app, the latest Bratz Doll filter has completely taken over. It seems everyone is obsessed with seeing themselves as one of the beloved Y2K dolls.
If you lived through the era, you know how impactful Bratz dolls were. They were the voice of the cool girls. Their slogan, “We’re the girls with a passion for fashion,” said it all. Dressed head to toe in the latest trends, they embodied the style of the 2000s. Clothes aside, the Bratz makeup solidified the dolls as beauty icons. The large almond-shaped eyes saturated with trendy eyeshadow colors; the glass-like skin with flushed cheeks and plump, glossy lips. It was bold, eye-catching, glamorous—and the perfect setup for a viral TikTok filter.
Users have been sharing their Bratz photos on the app left and right. But while the filter is having a major moment right now, the signature Bratz makeup looks have been trending on TikTok for quite a while. Creators and makeup artists frequently share tutorials under the hashtag #Bratzmakeup, which has amassed over 63.3 million views. Ahead, two celebrity makeup artists break down the trend and share tips on how to achieve the look in real life.

What Defines Bratz Makeup?
The Bratz makeup trend is anything but subtle. Despite the hazy look of the dolls, the makeup is bold and daring. “The skin has a dewy look to it that’s nicely complemented by a pop of color on the cheeks,” says celebrity makeup artist Jaclyn B. That hint of glow is telling of the highlighter looks that ruled early 2000 makeup trends. Still, the standout features of Bratz makeup and the popular filter are the eyes, which include dark fluttering lashes and a heavy smokey eye. As for the lips, Jaclyn B says that they must always be glossy and pouty.
How To Do Bratz Doll Makeup
The Bratz makeup craze shouldn’t come as a surprise. Jaclyn B. explains that the Y2K aesthetic has been heavily embraced by major pop stars today. “It girls like Sabrina Carpenter, Dove Cameron and Charlie XCX have been wearing this look, making it one of the most popular looks of the year,” she says. That said, recreating Bratz makeup at home won’t be a challenge.
“The Bratz look begins with skin prep,” says Jaclyn B. “Start with a serum that will give you a dewy look like, then follow with an essence to make your skin pop.” After you’ve given your skin the glass treatment, it’s time to move on to blush. Jaclyn B notes that application is key, as the blush needs to pop while also looking seamlessly blended into the skin. “Use a bright cream blush on the apples of the cheeks and then top with a powder blush,” she says. This will give you a lasting color payoff and diffuse the product so it looks airbrushed.
For the lips, the pros recommend lining with a cool-toned lip liner and topping with a shiny gloss. As for the eyes, it’s all about a smokey look with a touch of glitter. The final touch to make your Bratz makeup look complete is lashes. “Pair your shadow with a fluttery set of faux lashes to draw focus to your eyes and make them stand out,” says celebrity makeup artist Alexx Mayo. He recommends going with an over-the-top style with a natural yet glamorous effect.
