Undergoing chemotherapy takes a serious toll on the body. Along with the obvious symptoms of fatigue, nausea and general pain, come some pretty harsh physical changes (think loss of hair, eyelashes and eyebrows). For cancer patients—especially women—these physical changes can be emotionally draining, which is why one beauty blogger decided to give her cancer-stricken mom a boost of confidence with an unbelievable beauty transformation.
Beauty blogger and makeup artist Nadina Ioana recently posted a makeup tutorial to YouTube regarding the best practices for applying makeup to cancer patients. In the video’s description, Ioana notes that this tutorial is so specific because cancer patients “usually have very sensitive skin, and no brows or eyelashes at all,” making the cosmetics process much more difficult.

She then continues to expand on the various setbacks that make makeup applications on chemo patients more difficult than others. “It’s very important to properly prepare the skin before doing the makeup, putting the right products on (moisturizing cream and serum for sensitive and dry skin type),” Ioana wrote, before saying “be careful in the application of the eyelashes, the client won’t have any natural eyelashes at all, so they can be uncomfortable if they’re not applied correctly.”
Nadina’s solution for keeping the brows and lashes looking natural? It’s simple: “The brows should look symmetrical and be lighter in the beginning and darker towards the end,” she explained in an interview with NewBeauty, adding that “the lashes also shouldn’t be too long.” So, snip the ends of the fake eyelashes until they’re light and feathery. This quick step will ensure they don’t appear fake.
Unsurprisingly, the video is quickly gaining popularity, with tons of supportive commenters writing things like, “You are an inspiration!” and, “You are such a wonderful daughter and your mom is such a strong woman!”
One glance at the video, and it’s easy to understand why Ioana’s tutorial is getting so much attention. By refusing to let chemo take away her mother’s chance to feel beautiful, Ioana helped both her mom, and other beauty-loving cancer patients feel more confident. The transformative power of makeup can be a wonderful thing, and Ioana’s video certainly proves that.
