Without a good cleansing routine, you might as well throw the rest of your skin-care products away. If you’re not effectively removing all the makeup and grime from your skin, how can it receive the products you apply on top? A clean surface (and pores) is the best way for serums and creams to work their magic. One cleanser that does the job with the added bonus of a little bit of exfoliation is Tracie Martyn’s Amla Purifying Cleanser.
Not familiar with Tracie Martyn? The New York spa is essentially an institution for local A-listers and influencers seeing the brand’s signature Red Carpet Facial. Founded by celebrity facialist Tracie Martyn in 1998 and now led by holistic nutritionist Marius Morariu, the brand has a major cult-following. You’ve probably seen someone (or multiple people) you follow on Instagram posting their selfies from the aesthetician’s table before Fashion Week, the Met Gala or any other big event. Thankfully, for those who can’t make it to the spa, the brand has a beautiful collection of skin-care products that can be used at home.
The Benefits of This Cleanser
Morariu describes the brand’s skin-care collection as “ancient healing meets modern science,” and this cleanser fits the bill. Dubbed “liquid gold” by many of its longtime fans, this pH-balanced formula is sulfate-free and cleans the day away without stripping the skin barrier. Its yellow-gold color comes from the addition of turmeric, which helps brighten the skin. The star ingredient is amla, aka Indian gooseberry, which is a potent antioxidant that’s praised in Ayurveda for its healing properties. Other key actives include Hawaiian green papaya enzymes and lactic acid (a gentle alphahydroxy acid), which gently exfoliate the skin. It also contains some salicylic acid to help keep breakouts at bay.
To use it, mix two pumps with warm water to create a soft lather. It’s a concentrated formula, so a little goes a long way. Morariu says you can also leave the lather on your face for a couple of extra minutes for extra exfoliation and brightening.
The Celebrities That Love It
Actress and talk show host Kelly Ripa is a big fan of the formula. “The Amla Purifying Cleanser actually cleanses, soothes and replenishes all at once,” she says. “Picking the favorite [Tracie Martyn] product is a bit like picking the favorite child however!”
“I’m so addicted to the Amla Purifying Cleanser,” says Saturday Night Live actress and comedian Chloe Fineman. “I’m on my third bottle this year! Beware, it’s an addiction!”
Actor Lukas Gage (you know him from The White Lotus, Euphoria and more) says: “I am so obsessed with TM [Tracie Martyn] products. I love the turmeric cleanser. It smells amazing and is so gentle on my skin!”
