For celebrity makeup artist Tim Quinn, the last year has been transformational from the inside out to say the least. In addition to starting his skin care line Halo 42 with cofounder Mark Turnipseed, he’s been on a bit of journey to increase his physical and mental health and promote wellness in his life. After a more than 20-year career as the head of Armani Beauty, Quinn has done what many others have in a post-pandemic world. He’s pivoted to pursue his dream of sharing health, wellness and good skin with the world, and his new path has given him a look both inward and outward. “For me it’s about finding my inner joy and rediscovering what it is that really makes me smile,” shares Quinn.
As part of his plan to find his inner joy, Quinn traveled as far as Sacred Valley in Peru for an Ayahuasca cleanse to help him reach an emotional breakthrough, but the process of purging was a bit overwhelming. “To be in a large tent with multiple people getting either sick or having this extreme breakthrough was quite the experience,” he explains. “I kept waiting for my turn to have this big beautiful, connected feeling, but it was happening for everyone else first. It was intense.”
Adding Structure
To add to his year of transformative experiences, Quinn sought out Delray Beach, FL dermatologist Dr. Janet Allenby for a refresh that included wrinkle relaxing and volume boosting injections. To give Tim a younger look naturally, Dr. Allenby recommended using an adipose matrix (or fat) injectable called Renuva, Sculptra and neurotoxin and HA filler injections. “Tim is already a very handsome man so what we want to focus on is restoring some of the effects of aging,” noted Dr. Allenby at his first visit. “As we age, it’s not just our skin and soft tissue that sags, the underlying bones begin to shift and whither with time. For Tim we focused on not only smoothing lines and wrinkles but recreating the underlying youthful structures in his face including his temples, around his eyes and his jawline.”
Restoring Volume
To help recreate a stronger and more rounded look in Tim’s upper face, Dr. Allenby injected Renuva (it’s an alternative to fat transfer) in the scalp and near the temples. She also used the longer-lasting filler Sculptra in the his upper face and temples which will generate more collagen in those areas over time. “For the forehead, I used Jeuveau and Restylane Refyne off label in the brows to give him a more prominent look above the eyes.”
Strengthening Male Features
Adding to the theme of rebuilding areas where the bones have shrunk, boosting the jawline and building up the nose also helped turn the clock on Quinn’s look. “For his nose, I used Revance’s RHA 4 which is a thicker hyaluronic acid filler and perfect for redefining the contours of the face,” shared Dr. Allenby. On his jawline, syringes of Juvéderm Voluma were injected for a stronger profile.
“I was overdo for a renovation,” says Quinn, who highly recommends the nonsurgical route for those who aren’t ready to go full Marc Jacobs yet. “I had some mild bruising and swelling for a few days, but nothing major. It’s totally worth it to be able to see a reflection of the refreshed version of me,” he adds. “Now my outside mirrors my youthful spirit.”
