Starring as the female lead (Sarabi) in Mufasa: The Lion King, Tiffany Boone is about to have a big December. Besides it being her first animated film, Boone portrays Beyoncé‘s mother-in-law and mother to Simba (Donald Glover). The story is told through flashbacks with the prior generation as the leads and while Boone hasn’t met Bey yet, she’s already gearing up for a red-carpet run-in with her co-star.
Congrats on the role. The movie is going to be huge. What are you excited for most about it coming out?
It’s been such a long process! But that’s just normal for an animated film. This is my first animation. I’m just so excited to share this film with the world, finally. We worked on it for so long. Being part of it is really such an honor. I’m really, really excited to be able to tour and go all over the place and share this film with the world. I’m very excited to hit the red carpet and do all the press and play dress up. I love to play dress up!
When you do the media circuit and the red carpet and all that good stuff, how do you mentally prepare for it? Do you let your glam squad do their thing?
I get nervous. When friends and family watch me do it, they always say, “You’re fine!” But deep inside, I am nervous. If I love the clothes, makeup and hair, it makes walking out there a lot easier. When I look good, I feel good. And taking a shot sometimes helps! I love my glam squad. We always have good energy going—we have fun and enjoy getting ready for it.
Do you do anything when it’s all over? Do you take a bath or wash your face or grab In-N-Out burger?
I always wash my face at the end of the night. It doesn’t matter how much I drank or how tired I am…I don’t wait. I usually do need to eat something, and I try to hydrate with some water.
What do you like for cleansing?
If I have a lot of makeup on, I like to do a double cleanse. Right now, I’ve been using Cosmedix. They have a clean, gentle cleanser that takes it all away. I feel like it gets my skin clean without stripping the oils or anything like that. Then, I love to put oil on my face afterward as the base. And then, I’ll use moisturizer, which I’m constantly changing. I do really like REN. They have an EverCalm line that I use. I’m really into that right now.
I know you wear your hair naturally and that you like talking about natural styles. What products do you really think are doing a great job in the space or just things you rely on?
I went natural with my hair about ten years ago. I love Mane’s Choice shampoo and conditioner. They are really moisturizing. I also love the EcoStyler. That’s kind of my go-to. I also like to pull my hair back in a ponytail and do the edges.
A little birdie also told me you are excited to meet your co-star, Beyoncé.
Yes! We’re colleagues, right? I don’t know what I’m going to ask her! I have no idea what I’m going to ask her. Who knows what is going to come out of my mouth? Who knows if words will even come out of my mouth! [laughs] I’d love to just be able to watch the film with her.
