“I recently took Joey King’s hair to a gorgeous icy blonde,” celebrity hairstylist and expert mind behind some of the hottest celebrity color transformations, Dimitris Giannetos, “She usually sticks to a warmer honey look, so this was such a fun transition and she looked absolutely stunning.” The dark roots and ashy tone of King’s updated blonde make for an edgier style. 

Soo Joo Park

A drastic change in both length and color, master stylist and colorist Paul Labrecque notes that model and singer Soo Joo Park’s hair transformation was a personal favorite. “Soo Joo brought up her stringy length and added in shades of royal and sky blue, which is such fun,” he says.

Zoey Deutch

Another two-for-one swap in both color and cut, Zoey Deutch’s transition from long, auburn strands to a platinum blonde pixie also made Labrecque’s list of favorite celebrity hair transformations. “You go, Zoey,” he says, “Crop that hair off and turn it baby blonde—show the world that strong looks are also very feminine.”

Megan Fox

Megan Fox has rocked a number of different hair colors in the last few years, from red to denim blue and auburn, but her switch to cotton candy pink was definitely a stand out.  “I love transforming Megan Fox’s hair, and when I did this look on her and made her hair a gorgeous marshmallow pink shag, it was one of my favorite looks on her,” says Giannetos. 

Meredith Duxbury

“I loved this recent ‘Black panther’ hair color transformation that I did for Meredith Duxbury,” says Giannetos. “We took her (usually) light hair to a strong dark black.” Duxbury has been rocking copper strands for most of her time in the spotlight, so this transformation is a stark one.

Kim Kardashian

We’ll never forget the first time Kim Kardashian stepped out with platinum blonde strands—a striking departure from her traditional black ‘do—but every time the star steps out as a blonde we’re equally as amazed, like in her recent hair transformation for the 2024 Met Gala.

Expert Tip: When going from brunette to a blonde as bright as Kim’s multiple sessions at the salon will likely be necessary.

Julia Roberts

For decades, Pretty Woman star Julia Roberts rocked brunette and auburn strands (the OG cowboy copper, we’d venture to say), so when she transitioned to a bright blonde in the mid 2010s, we were in awe. Recently, Roberts has further embraced her blonde era, going for an even fuller, lighter blonde during this year’s Wimbledon tournament.

Although she is one of those amazing people who looks great as a blonde or a brunette, her red “is shiny and vibrant, and brightens up her whole face,” adds Nicole Tresch, senior colorist at The Rita Hazan Salon.

Expert Tip: Red is one of the hardest colors to maintain and the hardest to get out if you decide you no longer want it.

Lady Gaga

The mother of all mothers, we have long associated Lady Gaga with her platinum blonde hair, but there have been multiple times throughout her career—both in the 2010s and now—where the “Poker Face” singer has traded her blonde strands for bold blacks. “She can pull off a lot because she is so eccentric, but thanks to her youthful skin she pulls off both looks well, which few people can do,” says Tresch.

Maggie Gyllenhaal

While we adore her short pixie cut regardless of the color, her rich brown shade takes our vote, should we get one! “Maggie’s dark hair really makes her features pop,” says Tresch, “You see her eyes first when her hair is dark, alternatively all you see is a head of bleach and her features get lost.”

Expert Tip: Hair that has been bleached may suffer breakage and that kind of color has to be maintained every 3-4 weeks.
