Former Real Housewives of Beverly Hills star and recent Celebrity Big Brother contestant Teddi Mellencamp is no stranger to sharing her health journey online. The reality star is also an accountability coach who often updates followers on her achievements and challenges when it comes to maintaining a healthy lifestyle. Known for her weight loss program “All In by Teddi,” she’s often sharing life tips and advice for maintaining a healthy physique. In a recent post, Mellencamp opened up about the importance of getting a yearly skin cancer check after finding what could be a dangerous melanoma.
Mellencamp had been putting off going to the doctor, but her eagle-eye friend and former co-star Kyle Richards spotted an area on her back that did not look quite right. “This is a reminder to please go get your yearly skin checks,” she wrote on Instagram. “I had been avoiding mine bc of my own anxiety for a very long time but when @kylerichards saw my back and it had changed colors again, she immediately took me to the doc who within minutes said it looks like melanoma and did a big removal.”
It’s currently estimated that one in five Americans will develop skin cancer in their lifetime. According to The Skin Cancer Foundation and American Academy of Dermatology, those who are high-risk should see a dermatologist for a skin cancer check once a year.
“I find strength in being honest with you all and hope this helps others,” wrote Mellencamp, who also noted she was waiting patiently for test results. “Please let this be a reminder to take action on your own skin.”
