Statement Blush Is Back—Here Are 19 to Try

As far as your makeup-bag necessities go, blush might fall low on the list. A swipe of blush across the apples of your cheeks has a timeless appeal, but blush as the focal point of your look probably transports you back to the ’80s. However, after months of sitting inside with bare faces, bold statement blush is trending and the evidence is all around us.

Statement blush looks were seen all over Anna Sui’s Spring 2021 show, seen above, and celebrity makeup artist Ermahn Ospina says diverse blush trends are ranging “from soft monochromatic tones to very highly pigmented hues” both on and off the catwalk. No matter what, he says, the blush is always serving a larger purpose, helping achieve an over-arching desired look.

Ospina feels that statement blush is making a comeback because it’s an all-in-one product that can be used in a variety of ways. “A blush could be used not only on the cheeks but also on the eyelids, and if you are using a cream blush, you may use it on lips to create a fast natural but yet impactful makeup look,” said Ospina.

Celebrity makeup artist Sandy Linter says another blush-based trend she’s recently seen is blush “slightly swept through the eye shadow to the temples, and underneath or on top of the cheekbones.”

Whether you play with your blush and apply it in new, trendy ways, or swipe it along your cheekbones in a more traditional form, Linter suggests pursing your lips until you see your cheekbones pop, then applying the blush “higher up along the cheek to give a slight lift to the face.”

To help you hop on this hot trend, we’ve rounded up 19 of the best blushes.
