Whether you wait patiently for the yearly release of the Pumpkin Spice Latte or you prefer to switch things up with one of their ever-changing Refresher options, Starbucks is always pushing the envelope when it comes to coffee. This week, the company announced that their latest innovation in the world of caffeinated beverages comes in the form of this unconventional ingredient.
Believe it or not, extra virgin olive oil is the latest addition to the ever-growing line of Starbucks-specific beverages. The company announced this week that they will be launching their Oleato line across the United States and abroad in phases throughout the next year. The new line will feature versions of some of the company’s most popular drinks like their shaken oat milk espresso latte and even cold brews infused with at least one full spoonful of extra virgin olive oil in each.
Not only will the Oleato line offer specially made EVOO-infused drinks, Starbucks is also planning to allow customers to add the ingredient to any of their preferred beverages. Starbucks CFO, Brady Brewer, explains that the Oleato line “is one of the biggest launches we’ve had in decade. Rather than a flavor or a product, it’s really a platform,” he explains in reference to the forthcoming customization options.
Interim CEO, Howard Schultz, made the decision to introduce EVOO to Starbucks drinks after meeting with olive oil producer, Tommaso Asaro, who enlightened Schultz about his daily practice of consuming one spoonful of olive oil a day. As many of us already know, EVOO has been known to reap many benefits on the skin, heart and more as it is an antioxidant, anti-inflammatory and antibacterial, which is yet another reason why Schultz felt inclined to try and incorporate Asaro’s daily ritual into his customer’s lives.
A set release date for the Oleato line has not yet been announced, but we know that Starbucks lovers everywhere will be adding olive oil to our lattes ASAP.
