Now that summer is on its way out the door, we’ve been on the hunt for a streak- and transfer-free, natural-looking facial tanning product to keep our skin looking sunkissed all through fall and winter, and it’s safe to say the hunt is officially over. Enter St. Tropez Self Tan Purity Bronzing Water Face Mist ($30), our most recent (and arguably most reached-for) addition to our stash of tanning products.
It goes without saying that this must-have can add a glow to even the lightest of skin tones—it develops to its darkest shade within four to six hours—but it also adds a dewy finish to darker tones, making it accessible for a wide range of users.
An added bonus of the tanning facial spray is that it also has skin-care benefits. Infused with hyaluronic acid to deeply hydrate, hibiscus extract for a boost of antioxidants and mandarin water for an automatic refresh, this easy-to-apply mist sinks deep into the skin’s dermis to heal and moisturize from the inside-out. Plus, it’s free from harsh ingredients like parabens, mineral oil, sulfates or phthalates and its made with what the brand calls “natural tanning agents.”
Having struggled with acne-prone skin my whole life, I was hesitant to try a tanner on my face, but after just one use, I knew the brand wasn’t lying about its easy-to-achieve effects. This product brightened my complexion, soothed any existing inflammation on my skin and it didn’t come off on my sheets like my body tanners typically do. It was also much easier to use than other tanning products I have previously tried (hint: there is no mitt required).
Before use, exfoliate the skin and hydrate any dry areas of the face with your favorite moisturizer. Then, close the eyes and spritz about five to six pumps all across the face, neck and décolletage—no need to rub in. We like to use this under or over our makeup for a fresh glow, but we also use this before head-hits-pillow to wake up with that just-left-the-beach tan without having to leave the sheets. The brand also recommends users spray this on their hands and feet for a flawless glow.
