Caroline Hirons is the biggest skin-care blogger on the planet right now. A British aesthetician with 35 years of beauty retail experience, Hirons knows the ins and outs of more than 100 skin-care brands and just about every ingredient you see on product labels. Plus, she speaks her mind and educates her followers with a witty sense of humor, which we love—whether she loves or hates a product or an ingredient, she gives us the “why.” It’s incredibly refreshing.
Last week, she launched her two highly anticipated, limited-edition Spring Kits, which bundle some of her favorite skin-care products in one cute neon pouch. But, the website crashed one minute after they launched, and needless to say, they sold out.
“We went live at 12:00, and crashed before 12:01,” says Hirons. “At its peak, there were 120,000 people on the site with 80,000 trying to click to buy.” After the crazy sellout, Hirons posted promo codes for the featured products on her blog, so those who couldn’t get the kits were able to still get discounts via each brand’s personal website. And boy did Hirons’s fans, or “skincare freaks” as she calls them, like that.
“When we released the corresponding brand offers on Monday—something we do to make sure everyone can access something out of the kits they wanted—my readers crashed Kate Somerville‘s sites in the both the U.S. and UK, and the UK Zelens, Medik8 sites. Dr. Dennis Gross and Sunday Riley had total sellouts on the websites that did their codes.”
