We saw Reneé Rapp rocking sexy bedhead on the red carpet, so we learned how to get sexy bedhead. Just like her character Regina George in the new movie musical Mean Girls, Rapp is a trendsetter. For the movie premiere, celebrity hairstylist Dana Boyer, who is behind many of the star’s best hairstyles, wanted the look to have “a lot of texture and a lot of sex appeal!”
Boyer tells us, the “inspiration for Reneé was keeping her shag super textured and sexy. I like to leave her with a touch of bedhead to keep it cool and a little bit undone.” Rapp has a good foundation for this with the perfect wispy bangs and the effortlessly cool energy she radiates.
The first step to achieving the look is detangling Rapp’s hair with the Tangle Teezer Ultimate Detangler ($16), which minimizes breakage, then Boyer mists Nexxus Humectress 20-in-1 Perfector ($17) for heat protection. She then sections out parts of the dry hair to apply Nexxus Mousse+ Volumizing Foam ($18) for maximum control, using the brush to distribute the product throughout the hair. Boyer says she often uses this product on Rapp as it adds a ton of volume and provides hold for heat styling but still keeps her hair soft and lived in.”
Boyer then uses an iron to create a bit of bend throughout Rapp’s hair, spraying each section with Nexxus Comb Thru Finishing Mist ($13) to hold the waves while they set. Next up is a touch of Nexxus Dry Shampoo Refreshing Mist ($19) “at the root to keep the finished look textured and soft.” She then uses the Tangle Teezer Ultimate Teaser ($14) “to lift the top section with a little bit of backcombing.” Boyer locks it all in with Nexxus Maxximum Finishing Mist ($8), so the look lasts throughout the night.
