I’m a Board-Certified Plastic Surgeon, and This Is the ‘Zen’ Skin Care I Use

Midtown Manhattan—Fifth Avenue to be exact—may not seem like the most relaxing place in the world. Just don’t tell that to New York plastic surgeon Alexes Hazen, MD, who has successfully set up both a practice, and a new skin-care line, that is pretty much the epitome of solace.

Meet Zen Essentials, the Dr. Hazen–created line that embodies her holistic approach to plastic surgery, wellness, beauty and health, all in one place.

“I have always loved skin care and products since I was a little girl, and quite literally used to create concoctions as a child,” says Dr. Hazen. “So, when I actually had the knowledge and skills to be able to do it, I was very eager to start. Then, I developed rashes and very sensitive skin, which motivated me to create a line that was effective, luxurious, yet clean enough for sensitive skin. Our brand is clean luxury skin care meets nature in every drop. We have meticulously crafted our products to offer the perfect fusion of cutting-edge science and natural ingredients—all at affordable prices. Each product is thoughtfully packaged in sustainable, elegant glass, reflecting our commitment to both luxury and environmental responsibility.”

It’s also transparent, as anyone who enters Dr. Hazen’s office can take a quick look around the corner from the reception desk and see the makings of the products (there’s currently cleansing drops, a serum, scrub, a scar cream and a facial moisturizer) all in one place. There’s early journaling, mood boards, color palettes, test logos, and basically all the different iterations that went into the line from conceptualization to completion.

“The hardest part about anything is starting—you need a lot of energy and momentum to get going as there are so many things to do—creation of products, vision of look, packaging, messaging,” attests Dr. Hazen, who is also an Associate Professor at NYU Langone Medical Center. “Once you get that ball rolling, it takes on a life of its own. Our formulations are meticulously crafted, free from harmful additives and unnecessary chemicals. Our ingredients include jojoba oil, shea butter, coconut oil, grape seed oil, meadowfoam seed oil, vitamin B5, probiotics, and more. As a New York–based aesthetic and reconstructive surgeon, I’ve seen firsthand the importance of high-quality, effective skin-care products for patients undergoing various treatments.”

Even if you aren’t having a treatment, Dr. Hazen sees a place for the line in many routines. “The products are amazing for facials, but also are wonderful for post-procedure—laser/radiofrequency, peels and surgery. Our scar cream is excellent as a recovery tool for all. Our product lineup includes Longevity Drops ($45), Milky Facial Cleansing Drops ($60), Zen Essential Scar Cream ($50), Zen Essential Scrub ($45), and Zen Hydration Bomb ($50). My background has equipped me with the knowledge and experience to develop products that truly benefit my patients.”

And as for that “Zen” vibe—that’s not just something Dr. Hazen slapped on the logo. “Zen means many things, but to me it means acceptance,” she says. “This means self-acceptance and acceptance of others. Our products are for all, and we believe strongly in equality and equanimity. Our products are for all genders and all races. This is very important to us. I’m passionate about holistic healthcare, longevity, anti-aging, wellness, and well-being. To share our message with others, I’m also launching my own podcast where stories of transformation will come to life. I’m eager to bring together a diverse group of inspiring people to discuss topics that cover all of the above, as well as empowerment, overcoming challenges, and the paths to a happier and healthier life.”
