In true Olivia Palermo fashion, the designer and entrepreneur is approaching her debut beauty line the same way she does her wardrobe: “When I get dressed, it’s to tell a story; the same thing is possible through makeup.” Playing on sensorial textures and a spectrum of hues inspired by the runway, Palermo is excited about what’s to come for Olivia Palermo Beauty. “We laid the foundation, now it’s time to build collections.”
Beauty Beginnings
“Beauty is something I’ve always been really interested in. I’ve worked so closely with my glam team throughout the years, learning and understanding their technique and different products that work for my skin and the different textures at play. I’ve really educated myself throughout the years, and creating a beauty brand is something I’ve always really wanted to do, so it was just finding the right time to do it.”
Mix Master
“I don’t like to feel confined to a certain look,” says Palermo. “Your makeup really changes depending on the message you’re trying to achieve.” For an everyday look, she opts for a smoky brown eye, but when she’s after something different, she calls in her “Glam Fam,” as she’s dubbed it. “I love to play with color and do it in an aesthetic that is organic to me.”
Tear Sheet
Pulling inspiration from vintage art deco elements, Palermo looked to a Deco bracelet she’s worn throughout the years as inspiration for the from-scratch packaging of her line. Reflected in beautiful greens and seafoam hues, vacation was another source of inspiration for the designer. “It’s where I’m able to rest and be the best version of myself. Bringing that wellness aspect into beauty and through our color palettes and brand messaging was really important to me.”
Beauty For All
“I wanted to make sure everyone could get something from the collection. I wanted to make sure that not only women, but men could also find something for them in the collection as well.”
Skin Sense
“I always say: ‘You have your skin for your entire life, so you better start taking care of it at a very early age.’ Understanding how your skin is constantly changing and really getting more insight into that is really important, so I think it’s great to touch base with a dermatologist. I’ve been really fortunate to have been working with Dr. Dennis Gross in New York for a number of years.
I also go to aestheticians—111Skin in London and Joanna Vargas in New York. Maintaining those facials is very important, but it’s also crucial to start with a dermatologist because that really sets the foundation for what you need, and then you can build from there. And, of course, your makeup will reflect healthy skin.”
To Be Continued
“We have lots in the works—I’ve been testing products for many months, so we’ll continue to do rollouts and expand the collection,” says Palermo. “There’s going to be a lot more to offer—I can’t wait to share more.”
