Okay, I’ll admit it, I’m a little vain. It’s not like I think this song is about me or anything, but I’ve been known to pose for a selfie or two. Around three years ago, though, I started taking fewer pictures of myself and the reason was simple: I’d formed a melasma mustache. A big oversized freckle lay just above my lip line and I couldn’t stand it. According to my mom, it helped define my lips. According to me, it looked like a mustache. So, what’s a girl to do? Obviously, turn to the latest in at-home laser technology, NIRA.

What is the NIRA Pro Laser?

The first and only at-home laser technology that’s entirely painless, NIRA is a non-fractional laser that carefully heats skin using a wavelength of 1450 nm for maximum effect. Able to build collagen, target fine lines and dark spots, even skin tone and tighten skin, this laser does it all.

A NB100 brand that’s absolutely exploded in popularity, NIRA was developed by a laser expert known for in-office treatments. Bringing those results home, this laser holds 12 patents internationally, is clinically proven and FDA-cleared.

What is Melasma?

A combination of hormones and genetics, melasma is triggered by sunlight. As you might guess, I wasn’t the most religious of sunscreen users. These dark spots appear like a shadow or large freckle. Mine spanned almost the entirety of my upper lip, but was especially dark on my left side.

“Genetics alone can cause an increase of melanin production, but it can also be caused by pregnancy, sun exposure, hormone fluctuations and certain medications including oral contraceptives or photosensitizing medications,” explains Chico, CA dermatologist Kafele T. Hodari, MD. “This particular set of circumstances results in what is called melasma. It can even result from inflammation and irritation from acne.”

My Results

As you can see, I was clearly feeling myself in both photos.

I started using NIRA about three months ago. Of course, my skin-care routine includes brightening ingredients like vitamin C, but I’d long given up on trying to fix my melasma. Everything changed when I started adding NIRA to my routine. Three times a week, I pulled out the device on my couch and went to work. And despite the claims, I was ready for a little bit of pain. I’m thrilled to report that there is none.

The device heats a small patch of skin for a few seconds, providing a beep to let you know the area is done and to move on. This sensation is stunningly mild. I would describe it as the kind of warmth your hands get on the perfect mug of coffee, just very targeted.

It takes me about five minutes to treat my face. I don’t do every square inch and target areas like my upper lip.

After two months, I noticed that the left side of my upper lip was almost completely melasma-free. To say I was shocked is an understatement. The area is massively faded and there is no longer a continuous shadow above my lip. I mean it when I say this is the only product I have ever tried for dark spot correction that made my jaw drop.

The Bottom Line

If you struggle with melasma or dark spots and in-office treatment isn’t in your plans, NIRA is for you. This at-home laser is your secret to gorgeous skin on your timeline, in your hands. The easy-to-use device is powerful but painless, sleek and easy to tuck away when you’re done. And above all, it really really works. I literally can’t recommend it enough.
