When it comes to skin care, we all have those persistent issues we’re trying to address. After surveying more than 1,300 NewBeauty readers,* we’ve identified the top skin-care concerns that are on everyone’s mind—and gathered some effective solutions to help tackle each one.

Anti-Aging (87.2%)

The overwhelming majority of readers cite aging and wrinkles as their primary concern. For this universal challenge, look for products containing retinol—the gold standard in anti-aging ingredients—as well as peptides and growth factors. Regular use of these ingredients can help boost collagen production and minimize the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.

Dullness (48.8%)

Nearly half of readers struggle with lackluster skin. The solution often lies in gentle exfoliation and brightening ingredients. Look for products containing alpha-hydroxy acids (AHAs) like glycolic or lactic acid, which help remove dead skin cells and reveal fresher, more radiant skin underneath.

Pigmentation (47.9%)

For those dealing with dark spots and uneven skin tone, vitamin C serves as a powerful ally. This antioxidant helps brighten skin while protecting against further damage. Combining it with other brightening ingredients like niacinamide, kojic acid or tranexamic acid can enhance results.

Texture (44.7%)

Surface texture concerns can be addressed with a multi-pronged approach. Regular exfoliation with AHAs or BHAs can help smooth the skin’s surface, while ingredients like ceramides and niacinamide help strengthen the skin barrier for overall improvement in texture.

Dryness (43.8%)

For persistent dryness, look beyond basic moisturizers. Products containing hyaluronic acid can help draw moisture into the skin, while ceramides and fatty acids help lock in hydration. Layer these under a rich moisturizer for maximum benefit.

Acne + Sensitivity

A significant portion of readers deal with these specific concerns (21.2% for acne and 20.8% for sensitivity). For acne, ingredients like salicylic acid and benzoyl peroxide remain tried-and-true solutions. Those with sensitive skin should look for calming ingredients like centella asiatica, green tea and allantoin.

Oiliness (13.9%)

While this affects a smaller percentage of readers, those dealing with excess oil can benefit from non-stripping ingredients like niacinamide and lightweight hydrators. Look for non-comedogenic formulas that help balance oil production without causing dehydration.

The Bottom Line

Remember, many of these skin concerns overlap, and it’s perfectly normal to be addressing multiple issues at once. The key is finding the right combination of ingredients that works for your specific skin needs while maintaining a consistent routine.
