This Will Seriously Make You Rethink How You Remove Your Acrylic Nails

Beauty blogger Amelia Perrin usually sports an Instagram worthy manicure. We know this because her perfectly manicured nails are featured heavily on her page. But just like with anything on social media, what you see online doesn’t always portray the reality.

Recently Perrin posted an image on Twitter to caution followers about the harsh reality behind a life with acrylic nails. She told Cosmopolitan that she’s been wearing acrylics for more than 6 years but couldn’t wait to go to the salon to have them professionally removed. She then did something she wouldn’t recommend to anyone else—she ripped them off herself.

When she peeled off her acrylics, she took with her part of her actual nails. What was left behind were damaged and thin nail beds that were not just unsightly, but also painful. In another tweet she wrote, “Nearly cried in the shower at the hot water touching my nail beds and I’m pretty sure there’s still loads of shampoo left in my hair.”

The good news is that just five days later Perrin was posting a much healthier-looking image of her thin nails on the mend—all thanks to biotin supplements. But in true fake nail addict fashion, she went back to her acrylics shortly after, which probably won’t help to fully restore healthy nails in the long run.
