Just over one year ago, I finished my six-month treatment of Accutane. My skin has never been clearer. I’ve turned a corner on my acne journey once and, hopefully, for all. I’m also lucky to have experienced relatively smooth sailing regarding my skin. But, as the seasons have started to change and the colder weather creeps in, I’m reminded of the dryness and sensitivity I deal with every winter. It’s time to look for gentle, restorative products to keep my skin balanced throughout the harsh NYC winter. Murad may be the answer.

Enter Murad’s new Sensitive Skin Heartleaf Collection. This line of sensitive skin products is formulated to soothe irritated skin and improve skin resiliency over time. As I’ve noticed my skin looking and feeling dry and reactive, there was no better time than now to try Murad’s new line. It’s safe to say that my winter skin-care woes are over before even starting.

Murad Sensitive Skin Heartleaf Collection: What to Expect

Murad is the No. 1 dermatologist-founded skin-care brand, and for years, its products have boasted endless benefits for various skin-care conditions. The brand’s latest launch targets an often underrepresented skin-care group: sensitive skin. Murad’s Sensitive Skin Heartleaf Collection has three main goals: provide instant, calming relief to irritated skin, improve skin resilience over time and make flare-ups less frequent and intense. As they say, an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure. Murad’s new Heartleaf collection is truly the best of both worlds, giving instant relief and lasting protection.

The four-product line consists of Murad’s Heartleaf Soothing Cleanser ($29), Heartleaf Body Cleanser ($26), Heartleaf Calming Cream ($63) and Heartleaf Gentle Resurfacing Serum ($65). I also tried Murad’s Quick Relief Colloidal Oatmeal Treatment ($49). For me, double cleansing has always been a bit much for my skin. Finding a cleanser that can gently but effectively remove makeup and sunscreen and cleanse and rid my skin of impurities is key. The Heartleaf Soothing Cleanser does exactly that. Using fermented heartleaf extract, fermented beta-glucan, microalgae and ceramides, this ultra-gentle cleanser immediately calms irritated skin while reducing signs of skin sensitivity. I appreciated the clean feeling my skin had after use, as I’ve found that certain gentle cleansers don’t make me feel totally clean. This one definitely does.

The same key ingredients are in the Body Cleanser, plus lipid-boosting technology that helps replenish the skin with each wash. I’m guilty of taking very hot showers, which is drying in general, but especially in the winter. I’ve been trying to take better care of the skin on my body, and Murad’s Heartleaf Body Cleanser has been the perfect addition to my winter shower routine. My skin feels freshly lotioned after each use no matter the temperature of my shower thanks to the ultra-hydrating formula. Next in the lineup is the Gentle Resurfacing Treatment, which might just be my favorite. I’ve been guilty of over-stripping my skin in search of radiance. But, Murad’s Gentle Resurfacing Treatment uses encapsulated, slow-releasing, micro-dosed glycolic acid to fix imperfections without stripping skin. Follow it up with the Calming Cream and your skin will have that post-facial glow with zero irritation.

The final product I used is the Quick Relief Colloidal Oatmeal treatment. It’s clinically proven to relieve redness, swelling, oozing, crusting and skin thickening (symptoms associated with eczema flare-ups). While I don’t have eczema myself, I do struggle with dry, cracked hands and feet in the winter. This treatment is the first product I’ve used that helped me find quick, lasting relief. In the past, I’d slug occlusive formulas onto my hands overnight in hopes of hydration. The five percent colloidal oatmeal, oat lipids and ground cherry blend in Murad’s Quick Relief treatment, though, provides immediate soothing, lasting relief and decreases flare-ups.
