It’s MET Monday everyone, and the A-list glam does not disappoint. The MET Gala, or MET Ball as it’s been dubbed, has become synonymous with head-turning fashion and beauty looks. This year’s theme, “Garden of Time” has celebrities going the extra mile on the red carpet, aka the famous staircase at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York. This year’s event celebrates the Costume Institute’s new exhibition: “Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion,” and we’re in for the full spectrum of style. Here, the best beauty looks at the 2024 MET Gala.
Our Favorite Beauty Looks on the Red Carpet
Jennifer Lopez
This look is the quintessential JLo glow: bronzed skin, perfectly placed highlighter and a high bun to show off her contours. One of the co-chairs of the event, the actress and singer had jaws dropping in her stunning Schiaparelli gown.
Celebrity hairstylist Lorenzo Martin styled Lopez’s hair using the Shark FlexStyle Sparkle in Black Diamond, TRESemmé products and the Tangle Teezer The Ultimate Styler. After curling her hair to give it texture, he mixed a dime-size amount of TRESemmé Weightless Silk Serum, Freeze Hold Hairspray and Mega Control Hair Gel together and then ran his fingers throughout her hair. Lastly, he brushed all the hair up into a voluminous bun.
Gigi Hadid
Talk about blonde bombshell: The supermodel is giving “modern Marilyn” vibes tonight. Her Old-Hollywood bob complements her off-the-shoulder dress and shows off her diamond necklace. The over-the-top pop of blush on her cheeks and bold red lip are courtesy of celebrity makeup artist Carolina Gonzalez and pull the whole look together.
Celebrity hairstylist Laura Polko prepped Hadid’s hair with Joico KBOND20 Power Masque, and then pinned it with hot rollers. She topped it off the curls with a 1-inch curling iron, and then lacquered everything in place with Joico’s Flip Turn to finish.
Jessica Biel
This look is fun and fresh, and everything we hoped for from the beautiful Jessica Biel. Chanel makeup artist Kara Yoshimoto Bua was inspired by the garden theme, of course, but also Jessica’s gown. “I envisioned a celebration of light shimmering through the trees, as well as fresh, spring blooms. The shades of CHANEL Ombre Essentielle Multi-Use Longwearing Eyeshadow and CHANEL Les Beiges Healthy Glow Sun-Kissed Powders [in Medium Rose Gold and Light Coral] embodied this vision perfectly, as they both incorporate warm, earthy tones of caramel, peach and brown.”
Celebrity hairstylist Adir Abergel wanted to evoke “a sense of romance, it was as if they were awakening in a French garden at the onset of spring.” He wanted to keep Biel’s hair “almost air-dried and feeling free of confinement and structure for a simplistic and elegant look similar to nature.” He washed her hair with Virtue Full Shampoo and Conditioner and then used the Damage Reverse Serum to protect her newly blonde hair from heat styling. He also added a few tracks of Hidden Crown Clip in Medium/Light Brown with Highlights to add fullness and body in the back. Then, he created beachy waves with the Kristin Ess 1 1/4″ Curling Iron.
Zendaya
It’s been five years since the actress walked the MET Gala red carpet, and we are loving this unexpected “Poison Ivy” look that fully embraces this year’s theme. The bold eyeliner and eyeshadow paired with a dramatically deep lip make a serious statement. Celebrity hairstylist Ursula Stephen styled Zendaya’s hair to fit her matching hat.
Zendaya (Look 2)
Zendaya stepped out onto the staircase in a second look for the evening, with a bouquet-of-roses hat (made by Alexander McQueen) like nothing we’ve ever seen before. Her makeup also changed. She swapped her dark lip for a rosy one, and her dramatic, “character” eye for a sexy, smoky one. We love the dewy skin and highlighted cheek as well.
Sarah Jessica Parker
Another iconic look from the actress who can do no wrong on the red carpet. This Richard Quinn dress and matching fascinator hat are so elegant and on theme. We love the pop of blush just on the apples of her cheeks and the half-up hair extensions that give SJP long, dreamy, voluminous waves.
Celebrity makeup artist Elaine Offers used Charlotte Tilbury products on the actress, including Pillow Talk Matte Beauty Blush Wand in Pink Pop and Matte Revolution Lipstick in Pillow Talk.
Tyla
The Grammy-winning singer looks like she just stepped off the beach with her slick hair and Balmain dress made of sand. She is positively glowing with her sun-kissed skin, feline flick and statement blush. Tyla proves it’s all in the details with the extra sand that’s been applied to her arm.
Karlie Kloss
“The delicate crystal flowers that cascade down Karlie’s beautiful pink gown inspired me to pair my signature cat-eye with a rose-colored lip,” says celebrity makeup artist Hung Vanngo, who used Estée Lauder products. “I wanted to make sure her inner glow complemented the shine of the jewels beautifully.”
The key step in the supermodel’s skin prep was the Re-Nutriv Ultimate Diamond Transformative Brilliance Soft Cream, which gave the skin a healthy glow. On the cheeks, Vanngo applied Pure Color Envy Sculpting Blush in 420 Rebellious Rose. And on the lips, he used the brand’s new Pure Color Explicit Slick Shine Lipstick in 903 Wrong Number.
Mindy Kaling
The actress looks absolutely stunning in her couture Gaurav Gupta gown, which is quite the work of art (the back somewhat resembles Rapunzel’s hair). According to E!, Kaling wanted to wear an Indian designer. We love the perfect pairing of a deep smoky eye, shoulder-grazing lob and glossy lip.
Kendall Jenner
To complement her archival dress from Givenchy’s 1999 collection designed by Alexander McQueen, Jenner is giving a pretty Maleficient look. As Lily Aldridge puts it, “evil Disney princess vibes.” Bum-grazing hair extensions, a strong brow and a matte nude lip complete the look.
Madelyn Cline
We can’t get enough of this look on the Outer Banks star that is giving timeless Americana. Celebrity hairstylist Marc Mena uses Great Lengths hair extensions to give the actress long, voluminous waves. He also used the viral Wavytalk 5-in-1 Curling Wand Set. First, he used the thermal brush attachment to give Madelyn’s hair that “effortless, ’90s blowout.” He then used “all the different sized barrels to add more volume, play around with the texture and give her long, voluminous hair different movement throughout.”
Kerry Washington
“For my favorite day of the year, I knew I had to show up and show out!” says celebrity hairstylist Takisha Sturdivant-Drew. “Kerry’s gorgeous, dark-violet Oscar De La Renta dress is the perfect representation of the theme, and I knew I had to match that chic, bold and fairy-like energy with her hair. I love a pixie cut on Kerry, and decided this was the perfect moment for an elevated pixie cut to bring the whole look together.”
Sturdivant-Drew used the Schwarzkopf Keratin Color in the shade Espresso to dye Kerry’s hair. “After finishing with the hot styling, I applied some OSiS+ Glow Anti-Frizz Shine Serum to her hair, focusing on the ends and anywhere else that I noticed flyaways. This was the perfect way to add some more shine to her hair as well as help smooth down some of the frizz.”
Kylie Jenner
“Vintage Barbie” is how the E! fashion panel described this look, and we couldn’t agree more. Her custom Oscar de la Renta gown was meant to emulate a garden statue to suit the theme, and her hair slicked back into a bun with loose curls hanging down and an accompanying rose was the perfect choice to tie the look together.
The A-lister’s longtime celebrity makeup artist Ariel Tejada used Kylie Cosmetics products to create a laminated brow, sweet sweep of blush and overdrawn lip, which gave this ’50s silhouette everything it needed to shine. “To really pop the blush and create a more ethereal effect, I applied the Powder Blush Stick in shade Meet Me There and layered it with the Tinted Butter Balm in shade Love That 4 U,” he says. “I lined her lips with the Precision Pout Lip Liner in Coconut 2.0.“
Sydney Sweeney
The actress threw us a major curveball tonight, trading in her long blonde tresses for a short, black bob wig. Her blue eyes match her dress—the E! fashion panel says blue is her favorite color—and her hair strategically matches her leather gloves. As far as makeup, the key elements of her look are thick, dramatic eyeliner, a flushed cheek and juicy nude lips.
Kelsea Ballerini
Celebrity makeup artist Kelsey Deenihan gave the country singer a bronzed glow, glossy lip and thick, fluttery lashes using COVERGIRL products. “I applied Simply Ageless Skin Perfector Essence in shade 40 Medium to Kelsea’s entire face. It’s perfect for days when you want a glowy, even tint that lasts all day.”
For Kelsea’s eyeshadow, Deenihan wanted to pull the beautiful peach and coral tones from the flowers in the dress, and also add a pop of lavender. She used shadows from the Clean Fresh Color 242 Mellow Mauve Eyeshadow Palette and the 252 Spiced Copper Eyeshadow Palette. She also coated Ballerini’s lashes with a few generous coats of CoverGirl Eye Enhancer Mascara in Intense Black, which is a brand-new curling mascara launching on May 15.
“For Kelsea’s lips, we went with Exhibitionist Crème Lipstick in 485 Coral Dreams, a beautiful, light coral,” Deenihan says. “This is my go-to CoverGirl lipstick because it’s super moisturizing and lasts all night. We topped it with our favorite Yummy Gloss in 550 My Main Squeeze for that perfect shine.”
Deenihan also used Bondi Sands’ new Technocolor Self Tanning Face Serum in Emerald on Ballerini’s face for a radiant complexion, in addition to the brand’s Tinted Skin Perfector for an allover glow.
Kim Kardashian
Flaunting a Maison Margiela dress with a tiny silver corset, Kardashian had jaws dropping on the red carpet. Celebrity hairstylist Chris Appleton gave her platinum-blonde, tousled hair with a really low fishtail braid. “There’s no shortcut to getting platinum blonde. We did it in three or four different sessions over a period of a few weeks because we also wanted the roots, which is really important on Kim,” says Appleton.
For makeup, her go-to makeup artist Mario Dedivanovic used products from his own line, Makeup by Mario, including SurrealSkin Foundation in 14 O and Ultra Suede Lipstick in Sam. “For Kim’s Met Gala glam this year, we wanted to go for pared-down makeup that was natural and effortless with light bronzed and softly sculpted complexion to enhance her natural beauty,” he says.
Kaia Gerber
We almost had to do a double take that this wasn’t the supermodel’s mom, Cindy Crawford. The two look so similar, especially when Gerber has her hair swept in a deep side part with major volume. It’s ’90s supermodel hair to a tee. Her fluffy brows and nude pout complement her elegant white gown and ultra-luxe jewels.
