Whether “faux” or a last-minute hair chop, bobs had a big moment at the 2024 Met Gala. Here are some of our favorite shorter-hair styles from tonight’s red carpet.
Gigi Hadid
Bringing Old Hollywood glam to the “Garden of Time,” the 28-year-old supermodel rocked an off-the-shoulder Thom Browne gown, big-time blush and an above-the-shoulder blonde bob.
Tyla
From the makeup to the texture of her dress, the “Getting Late” singer went with a “sands” theme for her Met debut, complimenting the red-carpet look with a short bob style and a now-viral “lift” up the stairs.
Elle Fanning
Fanning debuted her blunt bob at the end of March, continuing the style on tonight’s Met red carpet as she wore custom Balmain.
Penélope Cruz
Since the start of the year, the just-turned 50-year-old has made the transition from a lob to a honey bob, pulling it off every step of the way. Tonight, Cruz opted for an even shorter, darker style as she donned Chanel, Moroccanoil hair products for styling and color, and some fairy-tale flair. “Penelope wanted a chocolaty copper vibe for a change!” shares global celebrity colorist Matt Rez. “She looks beautiful with warm tones.” Celebrity hairstylist Pablo Iglesias adds that inspiration behind the look were classic Hollywood movies from the ’30s. “They were full of glamour in black and white, mixed with all the characters from fairy tales like Sleeping Beauty and Snow White.”
Meg Ryan
Returning to the Met red carpet for the first time since 2001, the iconic actress wore a black Michael Kors gown and her signature wavy bob style.
Rita Ora
For Ora’s “wet hair” style, celeb hairstylist Brent Lawler used her new TYPEBEA haircare line, sharing that she removed her extensions and opted for a shorter style ahead of the gala. “I wanted the hair to be wet and very close to the head to showcase the extraordinary beauty of the dress itself. The hair is very textured and frames the face softly like she had almost come straight out of a beautiful stream. This is not really your conventional red-carpet look, but instead something that feels more emotional and couture.”
Sydney Sweeney
Debuting a shorter, darker style over the weekend, Sweeney took her hair-makeover moment up a notch, surprising the red carpet in a dark-black bob.
