Aside from her newfound title as First Lady, Melania Trump has also long been known for her gorgeous hair, which seems to always be meticulously blown-out with no strand out of place. Behind her perfectly styled hair is the talented Mordechai Alvow, who, recently shared the techniques and secrets behind the First Lady’s locks with Yahoo Beauty, leaving us wide-eyed and excited to try the techniques on our own manes.

Alvow explains that he starts with a leave-in conditioner on damp hair—he reveals that he uses his brand, YAROK, on the First Lady’s hair, as she’s drawn to the vegan and holistic approach used to craft each bottle in the line—before moving onto the next step that might surprise you: mousse. “[I use] about four golf ball-size amounts that I massage into Melania’s roots to create volume,” Alvow explains, adding that he then blow-dries her hair with a round brush. “Once it’s dry, I take large sections of her hair and roll the with a large 2-inch curling iron. I immediately put large plastic rollers in and secure with metal pin curl pins.” Then, he sprays hair with medium-hold hair spray and lets it set.

After letting the curls set in the rollers for about an hour until her makeup is done, Alvow removes the rollers and massages the scalp to create blood flow and work up the volume. “To finish, I use Feed Your Style dry shampoo style powder, made with organic arrowroot, which helps create texture and separates hair strands so it doesn’t look solid and unnatural. I lightly tease the entire head and brush it out into big waves that don’t look too ‘done’.” For the last step, Alvow shares that the First Lady always runs her fingers through her hair to add the personalized movement her blowout always sports. “One last spray from above and she’s done.”

While even us beauty editors can catch ourselves rolling our eyes and saying “easier said than done” when hairstylists share their so-called “uncomplicated” techniques with the public, we have to admit that this one doesn’t sound as intimidating as some of the others we’ve encountered.
