Despite working in the beauty industry, I’ve been hesitant (so far) to get any sort of cosmetic treatments done, regardless of how insecure I can be about certain areas of my face. Recently, I found myself thinking more and more about the prospect of lip filler. I have naturally small lips, and have always wished my upper lip was a bit plumper and juicer, so I’ve found my thoughts going back to the world of lip injections quite a bit.
That was, however, until last week, when I tried my hand at Maybelline’s new chili oil–infused lip plumper at the brand’s New York launch party, and my dreams of juicy, full lips were finally fulfilled without the need for needles. I’ve tried plenty of lip-plumping products before, and have been impressed here and there, but the instant fullness I got from this new Maybelline launch was unlike anything I’d ever seen.
Maybelline’s Lip Lifter Plump Gloss: Tested + Reviewed
Maybelline’s new Lip Plumper Lifter Plump Gloss ($13) is a quite literally spicier take on drugstore staple brand’s iconic Lifter Gloss. This time, the ultra-plumping rendition of the Lifter Gloss brings the heat with the addition of chili pepper. Infused with both chili pepper and the brand’s Maxi-Lip technology, this spicy new gloss provides an intense, tingling sensation and even more insane plump and lift.
I won’t lie—the spice is REAL, so if you’re not keen on the tingly, spicy sensation on your lips, you may want to proceed with caution. I, however, have what some may consider a spice addiction. So it’s safe to say that I was eager to try this spicy gloss, and I cannot express how impressed I was.
The tingling and heat sensation on the lips takes a second to kick in, but when it does, you can literally feel your lips plumping. I tried the shade Red Flag, and I quite liked the heated feeling that comes with the gloss, and was equally as impressed with the color and the plumping. Within minutes, my upper lip had that celeb-quality lift and volume, and that that level of juicy, pouty realness lasted long after application.
