Original fans of The Real Housewives of Miami know how important friend and former Housewife Marysol Patton is to the show. Her witty observations and fast quips help give the beloved franchise that tongue in cheek humor that lets viewers know she’s not only in on the jokes, she’s also the one delivering them.
With her turn in The Real Housewives Ultimate Girls Trip season 3 alongside bestie and fellow Miami OG Alexia Nepola, Patton has cemented her place as Peacock TV gold. The “friend of” (and hopefully soon to be Housewife for Miami’s season six which is currently filming) has more witty observations up her sleeve with a new podcast and a hilarious “Watch With” show on Peacock with costar Larsa Pippen. Here, she talks all things Housewives and returning to T.V. after an eight-year hiatus.
You are the comic relief on both The Real Housewives of Miami and Ultimate Girls Trip. Are you coming back as a Housewife for the next Miami season?
“Here’s the thing: You have to show your family and your personal life right to be a Housewife and my husband’s kids were a little younger and a little more shy when we got married. Now they’re a little older and they have girlfriends and they’re really into it now. So, we’re going to show the family this year, show my new business, Cockies, and hope that the network goes, ‘Okay you can be a Housewife.’ I don’t really care about the title, but the paycheck is double the one I get right now.”
Well, you’ve earned it. Were you surprised by the positive fan response when Miami returned after such a long hiatus?
“I didn’t really think about any of that at all. I just thought, ‘Oh, I’m filming with Alexia, one of my best friends.’ It’s fun. The show aired on Peacock and I was like, ‘Is anybody watching this?’ Then when we went to BravoCon in the Fall, and I remember at our first appearances there was a big group of fans that wanted to meet me and Alexia. The lines were enormous, up to like 1,000 people. We took photos with so many people and they were screaming and wanted to cut the line to go to the next spot. I couldn’t believe it. I thought nobody was watching.”
Why do you think the Miami franchise is such a hit?
“I really don’t know. There are two schools of thought. I think that the city looks beautiful and the lifestyle is very glamorous. I think it blows all the other cities away. Even Beverly Hills, none of the girls I think live in Beverly Hills except for Kathy Hilton. You know, like, Lisa’s house, Nicole’s house, Alexia, the cars, the ocean, the boats—the lifestyle is just so different.”
What about glam? Is there a big difference between what you guys did in the first seasons to what you’re doing now? Housewives glam is a whole different animal now.
“Back in the day, nobody did any of that contouring. People are much better with hair now. You know, the keratin, the hairpieces. The possibilities now are endless. Back then it was a blow out, you did your makeup, and you went on your way. Now everything is next level.”
Who gets ready the fastest and who takes the longest?
“I would imagine that Kiki probably gets ready the fastest because she doesn’t even need makeup. Everything she puts on just fits her beautifully. I mean, she’s a professional model. Lisa is always the last one to be ready, so I would say she always takes the longest.”
What were the most important beauty items you took with you to Thailand?
“I lived in a braid in Thailand. One of my glam girls made it for me; she braided it right here. It was the worst synthetic hair, so I couldn’t get next to a flame. When she was done with it she said can you tell it was only $16. It was so humid, I had to pull my hair up and put that big braid up. For my skin, I discovered this stuff called espressOh Dewey Latte ($30), it’s a moisturizer glow that you put on. They also have a blush called Glassy ($26) that’s a clear gel. It makes your cheeks pink, and your face is all glowy and super healthy. I also love the Nivea Blackberry Lip Care ($8). It’s like a lip balm but it makes your lips look pinky burgundy. Us older girls need hydration. Then of course, obviously, mascara.”
What about in-office treatments. Are you a fan of lasers or peels?
“I had something done last year a few months before filming called Ultherapy and did it again in January. I didn’t see a difference, but they showed me the before and after pictures and there were certain folds on my cheeks that look better. It’s very subtle, but I don’t like to do anything even though everyone thinks I’ve had a facelift. I don’t know why people will write me saying you have too much filler. I’ve never put filler in my face in my life. I would never do that.”
On Ultimate Girls Trip you really opened up about your mom and her impact on the show. What do you think she would love most about this new chapter of you being back on T.V.?
“Oh, she would have loved it. She would be the first one to welcome the cameras in and comment on what was happening. She would love it!”
You’ve brought a lot of Cuban sayings to the masses. Which saying do you think has spread the most?
“Definitely, ‘Ay Por Favor,’ which is the name of my new podcast with Alexia on I Heart Radio. We’re going to talk about current events, not about Housewives, but whatever is trending that day like on Perez Hilton.”
And what about Cockies? Do you have a line of alcoholic beverages coming out?
“Cockies is coming to you very soon. It’s a line of mixers—no booze, just mixers.”
