Like her coconut water fruit cereal that went viral on TikTok, we’re major fans of Lizzo’s wellness hacks, and her recent post has us rethinking our own mind-body-soul routine.
With her mid-century modern Los Angeles serving as the backdrop, Lizzo poses in a full face of makeup in her recent Instagram carousel, but her glam ins’t the only thing we’re zooming in on. In the first photo of the bunch, the Good as Hell singer is undergoing a cupping treatment, which involves placing glass or silicone cups on the skin to create negative pressure. According to Cedars Sinai, this suction-based treatment encourages blood flow to increase healing and reduce pain.
In the following picture, Lizzo is shown with eight or so acupuncture needles on her face and hairline. According to doctor of Chinese medicine Elizabeth Trattner, acupuncture helps to restore homeostasis and encourages healing. “Acupuncture regulates levels of triglycerides, specific hormones, prostaglandins, white blood counts, gamma globulins and antibody levels. It stimulates the secretions of endorphins in the body, which are natural pain killers that make you feel great.”
Dr. Trattner also explains that facial acupuncture “can be used for facial rejuvenation, TMJ, headaches, tooth pain and any condition that effects the face. Facial acupuncture is done with smaller needles as more bruising can happen on the face.”
