Lizzo is celebrating a personal milestone. On Sunday, January 26, the 36-year-old singer shared with her nearly 12 million Instagram followers that she’s reached her weight loss goal. While many fans flooded the comments with praise and support, some critics took the opportunity to voice their opinions on her journey.
“I did it,” the “Truth Hurts” hitmaker captioned a mirror selfie in a maroon-hued activewear set. “Today when I stepped on my scale, I reached my weight release goal. I haven’t seen this number since 2014! Let this be a reminder you can do anything you put your mind to. Time for new goals!”
In the second slide of her post, Lizzo shared impressive stats from her journey, seemingly screenshotted from a health-tracking app. According to the data, she lowered her BMI (body mass index) by 10.5 and reduced her body fat by 16 percent. A trophy icon alongside the stats read, “weight goal achieved.”
“Amazing Lizzo!!!” one follower began. “It’s so hard to keep being consistent and still keep to an adjusted diet and push through your day to day life without breaking. I’m so proud of you mama! Your mental focus is on lock!!!” Another wrote, “Proud of you Lizzo! Hope you’re proud of you too!”
Of course, the internet is never without its critics. Some commenters implied that her weight loss undermines her body positivity message or speculated that she used GLP-1 medication to achieve her goal. “I thought you ‘loved’ your body at any weight. Nope, never beLIEved you. Ozempic sure did it’s thing!” one person wrote. Another commented, “So you wasn’t really as happy as you said you was when you were bigger?”
The truth is, Lizzo doesn’t owe anyone an explanation. As always, she continues to inspire by being transparent about her journey.
