You’d be remiss to talk about ’80s beauty moments without discussing the age-transcending makeup of Back to the Future’s Lorraine Baines McFly or Beverly Switzler’s crimped hair in Howard the Duck. Played by the iconic Lea Thompson, both characters still catch our attention in the present day—a time where Thompson stars in Hallmark’s The Chicken Sisters.
The eight-part original series is based on the NY Times best-seller of the same name and Reese’s Book Club selection penned by KJ Dell’Antonia. (New episodes of The Chickens Sisters are available to stream every Thursday through October 24 on Hallmark+.) Headlined by a solid cast of women—Schuyler Fisk, Genevieve Angelson, Lea Thompson and Wendie Malick—the show is set in the fictional town of Merinac, where a generations-old rift between dueling fried chicken restaurants leaves the founders’ families fractured and the locals taking sides. We recently caught up with the busy Thompson, who shared some insight on working on the project, as well as her excitement for daughter Zoey Deutch‘s Broadway revival.
What did you enjoy most about working on The Chicken Sisters?
The camaraderie with the wonderful cast and crew. We had lots of laughs!
You’ve done so many great projects over the years. What are some stay-with-you glam moments from set?
Cool eye patches after crying scenes and hot towels for eyelash removal.
Any holy-grail beauty items you swear by?
Beverly Hills MD Rapid Lift Serum ($139) for my neck.
‘Back to the Future’ is, obviously, iconic. What was it like getting into that ‘old-age’ makeup for Lorraine for the first time?
Weird. Especially since everyone thought 47 was so old.
Now that your children are in the industry, what is your best advice to them?
Don’t be a jerk! Everyone’s job is important. It’s a team sport.
What are you most excited for this fall?
Everyone to see The Chicken Sisters! Also, my daughter Zoey’s Broadway debut in Our Town.
