Before she was an influencer with a million-plus audience (hi, 4.58M YouTube subscribers and 1.8M Instagram followers), before she was an influencer with an eponymous makeup line (yes, that existed even as far back as 2016), and before she launched her Fool Coverage podcast (currently coming in at the not-so-shabby number-one spot on the Spotify Arts Podcast chart), Alabama-bred Laura Lee worked as an assistant at a dermatologist’s office—and she never forgot what that taught her in the way of sun protection and healthy skin care.
Discovery Channel
“I have a couple of products I recently just discovered. One is by Haleys Beauty—they have this concealer that’s recently came out and it is so good. It’s really looks like your actual skin. It’s so full-coverage, creaseless and it sets amazing. I am officially obsessed.”
Doc Do
“I LOVE EltaMD sunscreen. I used to work in a dermatologist’s office for four years as a medical assistant, and I literally helped assist the doctor cut out skin cancer for a living. I think it’s safe to say I took sunscreen way more seriously at a younger age than most people…I wanted something really good for my face—a face that was often breaking out that I could put a bunch of makeup on top of—and the EltaMD one is just the bomb. It’s so good.”
Makeup Must
“After Elta, I love my Nudie Patootie eyeshadow palette…it’s a neutral eyeshadow palette, and it’s my go-to every single day because it has all the neutral shades you’ll ever need. I love makeup, but I’m a pretty neutral girl when it comes to the eyes. Palettes can be intimidating sometimes—you have all these crazy colors and combinations, which look so beautiful, but whenever you’re trying to do your makeup in the morning, you’re just like, ‘Oh my God, please get me a champagne shimmer and a brown matte and I’ll be happy.'”
Facial Fix
“My all-time favorite facial in LA is at the Kate Somerville spa. It’s just their signature facial. It’s so good. They do everything, they even extract. I would say that is the more advanced thing I do that I’m obsessed with. I do get it done like every other month, and it’s game-changing.”
Heat Wave
“The one, kind of crazy thing I do for beauty…hear me out, my lashes grow straight down. They always have. I’m not a blessed person in the lash department, and some people’s just naturally stand straight up and I notice it! I’m so jealous all the time! Since I was young, I have always put the blow dryer on my lash curler to heat it up, and it really helps my lashes stay up all day long. You definitely want to test it on your leg or your wrist before you curl that tender skin on your eyelid. But just make it warm, not hot, like a warmer temperature with the blow-dryer, and you’ll see. I literally keep a blow-dryer plugged in at my makeup desk for the lash curler. That’s how into it I am.”
Self-Care Surge
“I definitely let my self care slip when we were in quarantine, and that extended into pretty much all of 2020. When we rolled into 2021, I was like, ‘Oh my God, I need to get my stuff together.’ I will say I picked up working out so much more. I went back to the spa to do my facials so much more. And I started eating way healthier—way, way healthier—than what I did in 2020.”
Fall Focus
“I’m a huge college football fan—an Alabama fan to be exact. We’re starting back with football and it’s a tradition for my husband and me, so I’m so excited for that, but I’m also excited for some fall clothing. I own a clothing boutique, it’s called Nudie Patootie, which is the name of the eyeshadow palette I created, and the store is a spin-off of that. We sell a lot of neutral stuff, but we just dropped a ton of new fall clothing. Although it’s warm in LA still, we are so deep in fall clothing and sweaters and all the cute hoodies and flannels and stuff like that, which is some of my favorite clothing to wear throughout the year! So I am very much looking forward to some good flannels and sweater weather.”
