Hundreds of products come across our desks every month, but not all of them deliver on their claims or live up to the hype. (Not everything that goes viral on TikTok is a miracle worker.) This is our exclusive curation of the best-in-class skin-care products receiving rave reviews from our team and hitting shelves right now.
Nu Skin ageLOC LumiSpa iO ($199)
There’s a new LumiSpa in town, and it’s really good. One of our favorite cleansing devices—its proprietary micropulse oscillation technology removes every ounce of grime—has been revamped to include a ton of upgrades: an improved battery and motor; an upgraded soft-grip handle to prevent slipping; nine LED colors so you can easily identify which treatment you’re doing; and more.
But, the biggest addition is the new connectivity to the brand’s Vera app, which provides customized treatments with intelligent coaching, tracking and product recommendations—you can also take selfies to see your skin-care progress.
EltaMD UV Luminous Broad-Spectrum SPF 41 ($36)
From one of the most highly recommended sunscreen brands by dermatologists comes a new rosy-tinted formula that my dry winter skin will soon be craving (though all skin types can use it). Oil- and fragrance-free, as well as noncomedogenic, the mousse-like texture leaves a semi-matte finish on the skin and creates a physical shield against UV, HEV and infrared light.
It can also be used post-procedure, and I think this is going to become a new go-to pick for many doctors and their patients to keep skin protected after in-office aesthetic treatments.
Jillian Dempsey Mixturizer ($34)
Leave it to makeup artist Jillian Dempsey to create a product we never knew we needed. This sheer, lightweight clear base cream was designed to be mixed with any thick, pigmented base product, like her Spot Stick Concealers, to diffuse the color and texture for a personalized, even finish. Or, you can wear it alone.
“As a makeup artist and product developer, I like to create solution-based products with many uses and little waste,” says Dempsey. “My intention behind the Mixturizer was to create a multipurpose skin enhancer to help prime skin for the next step. I knew I wanted something that would not interfere with other products, but still create a seamless skin look. That’s why I call Mixturizer an invisible medium. You can use it with the concealer from my line, or incorporate it into your other routine if you happen to use other products. If you’re looking for the ultimate skin-care prep before makeup, you can use the Mixturizer with my Gold Bar for extra smooth skin.”
NeoStrata Hyaluronic Luminous Lift ($87)
Hyaluronic acid is one of those skin-care ingredients we all need for plumper, healthier-looking skin, and this gel-cream contains three different sizes of the molecule, plus brightening benefits, for double-duty results.
Use it both morning and night—this is a must-have in the winter months—for superior hydration, and the addition of 4-percent neoglucosamine provides a little bonus exfoliation for a pretty glow. (It also helps fade dark spots over time.) It’s also fragrance-free, which I love!
Revision Skincare D·E·J Daily Boosting Serum ($225)
The newest addition to the brand’s anti-aging D·E·J system, this potent, antioxidant-rich serum contains patent-pending sunflower sprout extract technology, which has been clinically proven to reduce the visible effects of glycation on skin. So what is glycation? It’s when sugar molecules adhere to the collagen and elastin proteins in the skin, causing them to weaken, which results in wrinkles and sagging. This formula also includes acetyl hexapeptide-1, which supports the skin’s natural collagen and elastin to help prevent those detrimental effects.
Use it twice a day on your entire face, and even around your eyes. In a seven-day clinical study using the serum twice a day, participants showed a 92-percent improvement in the appearance of crow’s-feet, a 67-percent improvement in radiance and a 50-percent improvement in the appearance of skin firmness.
Biologique Recherche Collagène Originel ($87 for 0.3 oz, $165 for 1 oz)
The latest launch from cult-favorite Biologique Recherche, this 3-D redensifying serum is designed to act on the four main types of collagens (I, III, IV, VII) at the gene and protein levels to smooth out wrinkles and “redensify the skin in three dimensions.”
According to the brand, this is the first and only face serum that is based on Type-O Collagen, which is one of the brand’s proprietary and patented active ingredients. “It is derived from the purest collagen in a primitive marine planktonic organism that has not evolved in over 600 million years of existence,” the brand reports. “It is so old that it constitutes the historical strain of all collagens. It is ‘the mother of all collagens.'”
cocokind Resurrection Peptide Cream ($27)
As we head into the winter months and humidity levels plummet, our skin can plummet too. This rich, polypeptide-packed cream helps bring it back to life with resurrection plant extract, which enhances skin’s hydration and resilience. Squalane boosts the moisturization factor and the peptides boost collagen synthesis, so skin also feels firmer over time.
Fun fact: The cream has a blue tint to it, which comes from jagua, an antioxidant-rich plant extract—there are no synthetic colorants in the formula.
Replenix Blemish Clarifying Acne Treatment ($48)
The newest product to join the brand’s best-selling acne range, this serum is made with salicylic acid USP, which means it uses the same quality ingredient that prescription drugs are required to use. When you combine that with other key ingredients including redness-reducing caffeine USP, soothing aloe vera, brightening niacinamide and alcohol-free witch hazel, you get a winning formula that helps reduce discoloration from acne and balance oil on the skin.
“This is an important launch for us because acne is the most common skin condition and the most common concern we see patients visiting dermatologists for,” says Lisa Alviti, AVP of product marketing for Topix Pharmaceuticals, Replenix’s parent company. “In clinical testing, 100 percent of people said it visibly reduced their blemishes in eight weeks and 94 percent said it reduced their acne scars after eight weeks.”
MIZON Phyto Plump Collagen Night Cream ($24)
According to the brand, one in two women in their 20s and 30s worry about decreasing elasticity in their skin, K-beauty brand MIZON was inspired to create its new plant-based Phyto Plump Collagen line. My favorite product in the vegan collection is this night cream, which features moisturizing Tremellan-MC extract, brown algae and D-panthenol. Together, they fight free radicals, squash inflammation and support healthy collagen so wrinkles look less visible.
And here’s a big bonus: To celebrate the new range, MIZON is offering 30 percent off of its Phyto Plump Collagen products until November 30 on Amazon (that means this cream is only $17!).
Three Ships Beauty Skin Hero Bakuchiol + Calendula Bio-Retinol Serum ($35)
The science surrounding plant-based retinol alternative bakuchiol is promising, and the scientists at Three Ships have found a way to deliver it in a super-soothing way with the addition of calendula. This means even sensitive and acne-prone skin types can use this formula without redness or irritation, and after all, retinol was originally meant for acne-prone skin.
With continued use, you can expect smoother skin with a reduction in fine lines, wrinkles and blemishes. It also helps to fade post-breakout marks, which, for anyone who has them, can be such a pain to cover up.
