Launch List: The Best Hair Care Launching in December

Launch List: The Best Hair Care Launching in December featured image

Hundreds of products come across our desks every month, but not all of them deliver on their claims or live up to the hype. (Not everything that goes viral on TikTok is a miracle worker.) This is our exclusive curation of the best-in-class hair-care products receiving rave reviews from our team and hitting shelves right now.

Oribe Brushes & Combs Collection ($50–$125)

When I opened the box full of these tools, I gasped—they are even more beautiful than they look in this photo and truly works of art. Designed to last a lifetime—these are not brushes and combs you let your kids get their hands on—they are Italian-made, hand-finished and evoke old-world marble sculptures, but there’s also something really modern about them too.

“The quality of all of the tools in the collection is impeccable—they are made to last forever,” says Stacey Ciceron, global educator for Oribe. “My favorites are the Wide Tooth Comb and the Hair Pick. They are a great investment, especially for those with highly textured hair, as the durability of the brushes and combs show that I could easily use these for a lifetime, on both myself and on my clients.”

OUAI Anti-Dandruff Shampoo ($36)

The brand’s first product offering containing an FDA-approved ingredient, 2-percent salicylic acid, this shampoo works to reduce flaking, itching and irritation associated with dandruff to leave hair feeling clean and soft, as well as smelling (it’s the brand’s Cape Town fragrance) and looking good. It’s vegan and safe for color-treated hair, and the gender-neutral packaging makes it appealing to everyone in the shower.

“Our goal with this shampoo is to do more than drug store,” says founder Jen Atkin. “One in five people has dandruff, yet it’s still very taboo to talk about it. We are here to take the shame, embarrassment and discomfort out of having dandruff. From our formulation and clinicals, packaging, campaign, and especially fragrance, we are here to help you stop being flaky.”

Harry Josh Cordless Ceramic Curling Wand 1 Inch ($325)

The first cordless curling iron that is full-size with the same power as its plug-in counterparts, this game-changing tool is ideal for those on-the-go and stylists who tend to multiple clients simultaneously. The wand features a smart, rechargeable battery pack that gives at least 60 minutes of styling heat with a max temperature of 425 degrees. (You can also purchase the Charging Base Adaptor separately.)

“I’m thrilled to literally bring endless power to hairstyling,” says Josh. “Super high-quality, battery-operated styling tools have been on my mental vision board for years, and now the technology is not only here, it’s far exceeded my expectations.”

Briogeo Destined for Density Caffeine + Biotin Peptide Density Shampoo ($32)

Brand founder Nancy Twine’s first experience with hair thinning was back in 2007 when she was working crazy hours on Wall Street (she was in finance back then), and noticed more fallout than normal in the shower, as well as changes to her hairline. She was able to get her hair back on track, but that experience has stuck with her to this day, and for that reason, she always knew she wanted to add a density collection to her best-selling line.

“This shampoo encourages nutrient-rich microcirculation to the scalp and roots for fuller, healthier-looking hair,” says Twine. “The formula combines scientifically proven ingredients like copper peptides and zinc with hair-essential vitamins like biotin and vitamin E. When you use it consistently, it will help to strengthen, nourish and protect your hair after each wash.”

5 / 10

JVN Embody Volumizing Foam ($29)

“Ive always been a big fan of styling foams over mousses because they’re a little more hydrating, and with this foam you get plump, juicy, volume and texture,” says founder Jonathan Van Ness, noting that this product has been in the works since before he launched the brand. “Volume is how tall your hair is and body is how wide your hair is, and this does both. You literally just put this wherever you want to go bigger, and the texture is gorgeous, too.

It features our hemi-squalane, as always, marshmallow root extract for hold, and it also contains biotin. That’s what makes this formula different because it improves the overall integrity of the hair as it makes it look and feel fuller. The scent is the same as the other products in the Embody collection: very fresh, clean and light. Put two to three pumps on damp hair and then style. It’s all about big hair energy.”

Stripes The Root Of It Ectoine Calming & Thickening Scalp Serum ($50)

Formulated with perimenopausal women in mind, this hydrating scalp serum is a great option for anyone experiencing dry or thinning hair. Its star ingredient is ectoine, which the brand says “uses smart-targeted hydration to distribute love and moisture to thirsty strands.”

“Our estrogen levels drop during menopause and it can really create dry hair,” says founder Naomi Watts. “You take about two to three full pipettes and distribute them right onto your scalp, and then massage your scalp slightly. It feels so good and increases circulation. It also smells great—sandalwood and musk. Leave it on for 15 minutes—just enough time to check your emails and do whatever you need to do—and then pop into the shower and rinse it off.”

7 / 10

British M Renegall Scrub Shampoo ($26)

Like a creamy body scrub for your hair, this gentle exfoliating hair wash adds scalp care to the mix. Created with mineral-rich Dead Sea salt and a unique blend of fermented persimmons, camellia tea leaves and carob beans, it helps balance hair that turns greasy fast (IYKYK) by removing excess oil and product buildup to keep hair follicles and roots clean.

It also has a targeted tip so it can easily be applied to the scalp: I like to go right down my part, squeezing the tube to release shampoo as I go, and then I separate my hair to create two other “parts” on each side to dispense it there as well.

8 / 10

SALTAIR Beach Blonde Purple Shampoo and Conditioner ($12 each)

When you feel the weight of this bottle in your hand and you smell the gorgeous floral scent (notes of orange flower, pink jasmine, fresh plum and fresh gardenia), you’ll wonder how on earth it’s just $12.

Brand-new to SALTAIR’s recent foray into hair-care, this purple duo utilizes orchid and violet flower extracts to banish brassiness in blonde, highlighted and gray hair, helping to keep color in check between salon appointments. Plus, the addition of kukui nut oil leaves hair feeling smooth and nourished.

9 / 10

Hair Repair Bar by Giojé ScalpFacial ($55)

In 2019, trichologist Giovanny Jorge opened her New York City salon on Bleecker Street, Hair Repair Bar by Giojé, and the word spread about her signature hair repair treatment for clients with both oily and dry scalps. Then the pandemic hit and she realized there needed to be an at-home version, which you see here.

This two-piece kit comes in a Dry Scalp formula, which moisturizes and gets rid of flaking, as well as an Oily Scalp formula, which works to reduce excess oil from the hair follicles so they can “breathe” and function optimally (aka healthy hair growth no more greasy roots!).

10 / 10

L’Oréal Paris Elvive Hyaluron Plump Hydra-Flash Wonder Water ($11, launching soon)

When I first tried L’Oréal Paris’s OG Elvive Wonder Water back in late 2020, I was hooked. In just eight seconds, my dry, lifeless hair was resuscitated. Now, the brand is launching a new Wonder Water as part of its Elvive Hyaluron Plump Collection, which features a patented new technology and 72 hours of hydration.

This silicone-free, sulfate-free lamellar treatment essentially feels like water and penetrates the hair to seek out damaged areas and flood them with moisture and amino acids. The result? Shinier, softer, bouncier, more beautiful strands.
