While last night was a whirlwind of flowers, butterflies, gowns, wigs and more, the MET Gala wasn’t the only big event happening on the first Monday in May. Most of us associate with the first Monday in May with the biggest night in fashion, but the inaugural May Monday also marks an important day in the world of skin health: Melanoma Monday.
May is Skin Cancer Awareness Month, and leaders in the world of skin care, La Roche-Posay, celebrated the first Monday in this important month for skin-health awareness by offering hundreds of free skin checks in New York City. While the hottest names in Hollywood were gracing the MET steps last night, the skin experts at La Roche-Posay were making skin health a priority, with free skin checks, goodies and dozens of donations.
La Roche-Posay’s Melanoma Monday Pop Up Made Skin Checks Accessible to Everyone
Getting a yearly skin check is imperative in maintaining proper skin health and minimizing your risk of potentially deadly skin cancers, but not everyone has access to the health care professionals needed to perform these life-saving checks. To combat this lack of accessibility, La Roche-Posay hosted their first ever pop-up truck in New York City in collaboration with The Dermatology Specialists—New York’s largest dermatology practice—where visitors could step into one of four exam rooms (made to accommodate hundreds of people) and receive a totally free, private skin-cancer screening performed by Dermatology-trained physician assistants and nurse practitioners from The Dermatology Specialists.
But, La-Roche Posay’s commitment to making Melanoma Monday a momentous day for skin health didn’t stop with just their hundreds of skin checks performed between 10 a.m. and 7 p.m. The brand also made a promise to donate $5 to the American Cancer Society for every skin check completed over the course of the summer, up to $25,000, and also provided visitors of the pop-up with “samples of the brand’s dermatologist recommended and award-winning Anthelios sun care and skin care products that are suitable for all skin tones, types, and ages, as well as educational sun safety materials, coupons, and more,” the press release for the event explains.
“La Roche-Posay’s commitment to the cancer community, and specifically skin-cancer prevention, continues to play a key role in our brand’s mission,” says La Roche-Posay USA general manager Rachelle Mladjenovic. “We know that prevention and early detection are two of the most effective ways to minimize the risk of skin cancer. Through our SOS Save Our Skin event, hundreds of people will not only receive Anthelios products to protect themselves from the sun this summer but will also have access to a dermatologist for a potentially life-saving skin check.”
