Kristin Cavallari has grown up a lot since her time on reality television in the early aughts. This summer, the 36-year-old entrepreneur, mom-of-three and New York Times best-selling author relaunches her skin-care line, Uncommon Beauty, and is sharing how much a grounded self-care routine propels both the brand and her day-to-day life along the way.

Self-Care Staples:

“In addition to the physical benefits, my infrared sauna, dry brushing, meditating, and working out are all such a release to me mentally. My beauty routine is typically pretty minimal: In the morning, I splash my face with water, then use the Uncommon Beauty Pineapple Peptide Nectar ($62) followed by the Daily Water Cream ($52) and Triple Effect Eye Cream ($52). Most days, I just wear mascara and fill in my brows with an Anastasia pencil ($23). At night, I wash my face with the Uncommon Beauty Daily Foaming Powder Cleanser ($38), and then use the Uncommon Beauty Retinol Alternative ($54), and Eye Cream.”

To me, wellness is taking care of your mind, body and spirit.

Mental Matters:

“I’ll try just about anything—as long as it’s supposed to be good for you. I’ve gone to detox spas; I’ve done colonics and enemas; I’ve worked with spiritual healers and shamans; I’ve tried every fad diet imaginable. What I’ve learned through everything is that your mental state is half the battle. The way we speak to ourselves— that inner dialogue—is the most important thing. It trickles down into everything else.”

Gentle Flow:

“Wellness has become gentler over the years. I want to be kind to my body and hold more space for gratitude. Listening to my body and slowing down when I need to is key. Learning how to say ‘no’ to things and being OK with missing a dinner or event is also key.”

Fit Club:

“I work out four-to-five times per week. I do one day with a trainer and we do heavy weights; I lift weights on my own another two-to-three days, and I do one day of 30 minutes of cardio. If I’m traveling, I’ll do Pilates or yoga instead of weights.”

Test Time:

“I definitely take a few supplements. I’m always hesitant to say which ones because it’s different for everyone. I took a bunch of tests through my doctor and realized I wasn’t absorbing my nutrients, so I had to fix that problem before I could start taking all of my other supplements again. I really recommend doing all of the tests through a doctor: food sensitivity, hormones, stool, breath—all of it.”

Guilty Pleasures:

“My guilty pleasure is getting a deep-tissue massage every two weeks. I have a masseuse who comes to my house; I always feel like I have a new body when I’m done. Also, a good chiropractor who does soft-tissue work can do wonders.”
