Like Tiny Fey and Amy Poehler, Beyonce and Jay-Z, and Mary Kate and Ashley Olsen, Kendall and Kylie Jenner are up there for most iconic dynamic duo. In a recent YouTube video posted by Kylie, we got an ever closer look at the sister’s relationship, and it’s safe to say we love them even more than we did before (didn’t know that was physically possible). While the Jenners dished about everything from boy crushes to makeup tricks, they also spoke about Kendall’s struggle with acne and how it affected both her and Kylie’s life.
Recalling Kendall’s acne insecurities during high school, Kylie begins to wipe away tears. “I knew it was your biggest insecurity and every time like clockwork we would get out of the car, you would pull me into the staircase and you would say, ‘How do I look today?’…It always made me so sad to even hear you talk about it. I’d be like, ‘You’re so beautiful,’ trying to help. But then I had to go away by myself. It makes me feel bad. When you have your own daughter you just think about this.”
Unbeknownst to Kendall at the young age of 14, her acne-prone skin would turn into what people now define as porcelain, but it took the now 25-year old a long time to get her skin to where it is today. “I remember the summer before 9th grade is when all my acne went crazy and I was like, ‘I’m going into high school and this one guy’s really hot.’ I’m going to ruin all my chances!” she says as she explains that makeup was her biggest security blanket at the time. “I didn’t! We ended up dating. It was the confidence that came from within that really probably turned him on to me.”
Like the loyal sister she is, Kylie would tell Kendall how beautiful she looked, even in her worst moments. “I would have so much acne,” says Kendall. “Every morning we would show up to school—Dad would drop us off and we’d be walking up the stairs—I’d look at you and I’d be like, ‘Can you see my acne?’…Every day you would say, ‘No you look beautiful.’ I would be like, ‘Okay.’ I knew you were lying but I appreciated you,” she says talking to her sister.
Now, with clean and clear skin, Kendall sends a message to her fans: “I try not to think too deeply about it because I know it’s going to be all good. I want everyone to know I’m okay, and you can be okay too.”
