Funny lady Julie Bowen is the latest A-Lister in Hollywood to launch a skin-care line—it’s called JB SKRUB and it’s intended for teenage boys—and the Modern Family actress is sharing some of her own beauty secrets as part of the press rollout.

“I will not use retinol products that make my skin itchy or burn,” Bowen told New York’s The Strategist, sharing that her current go-to product is Aramore Retinol Peptide Booster ($185). “I use this in conjunction with the nighttime lotion, and it tingles but not uncomfortably. I started with three times a week, but now I’ve worked up to where I’m applying it every night.”

The Aramore line launched in November, is backed by longevity experts from Harvard and MIT, and the effectiveness is not lost on Bowen: “I’m not a bragger, but people tell me my skin looks phenomenal,” she says. “Full disclosure: A friend of mine works there, and I was in on some of the early product testing. She would bring me things like, ‘What do you think?’ And then when the line came out, she sent me some, and I was like, ‘I love this. I really genuinely love this.’”

While Bowen may be solid with her retinol routine at 52, she did share with us back in a 2014 cover story that she started the skin-care game late.

“…I never highlighted my hair until I was in my 20s; I never even got a manicure until then. Shaving my legs was about as exotic as I got. It wasn’t until I got older that I realized I was smart enough and I didn’t need to buy into either side of this, the side that said I’m an idiot if I wear makeup or somehow smarter if I don’t. So I started wearing a tinted moisturizer and I realized I looked better. I realized I didn’t need to be afraid to be a girl.”
