Jenna Dewan recently welcomed her third child, Rhiannon. While celebrating this sweet addition, Dewan got real, captioning an Instagram carousel, “Baby bliss with a side of mastitis,” to which many of her followers offered support and solutions, including some of her famous besties. Dewan just shared a follow up reporting that the recommendations helped, even the strangest suggestions.

“Now that I’ve survived mastitis I can confidently say…mamas I FEEL you. The amount of times I googled ‘will I ever feel better,’” wrote Dewan in another Instagram post. “All of your suggestions were amazing, thank you! What an experience to show how powerful and supportive we can all be for each other.” If you’re unfamiliar, mastitis is inflammation of the breast, generally caused by an infection. It’s most common among women who are breastfeeding, as a clogged milk duct can lead to infection. The condition can result in swelling, pain and heat in the breast.

Dewan went on to share what worked for her. “Cold compresses, cabbage and thinly sliced potatoes after feeds (treats inflammation),” said Dewan. Yes, you read that right—cabbage and potatoes helped heal Dewan’s ailing chest. The recommendation came from a handful of her followers, including actress Alyssa Milano, who specifically recommended frozen cabbage leaf.

Other solutions Dewab found helpful include castor oil on breasts with a warm compress, probiotics twice a day, vitamins C and E three times a day, ibuprofen, antibiotics, nursing, pumping and rest. For the shaking side effect, which Dewan described as “honestly wild,” hot Epsom salt baths helped soothe her. Additionally, rotating homeopathic remedies hepar sulph and phytolacca throughout the day helped speed up healing.
