Makeup artist Shawnelle Prestidge has been the secret weapon behind many of Jane Fonda’s makeup looks for several years. Considering how flawless Fonda looks every time she hits the red carpet, we had to pick Prestidge’s brain on her makeup musts—both for the 81 year old actress and those with more mature skin types in general.

Foundation Favorites
Not all foundations work for every skin type or age. For those with wrinkles they’d like to smooth out, Prestidge says foundations that provide buildable coverage are key. “Jane favors the HD varieties, so I use both Makeup Forever Ultra HD Foundation ($43) and Lorac POREfection Foundation ($38) on her. They glide on quickly and effortlessly to achieve flawless coverage with minimal layering and actual product.”
If you’re not always in front of a camera or high-definition lights like Fonda, Prestidge’s everyday favorites include Chantecaille Future Skin Foundation ($78), Au Naturale-Zero Gravity C2P Foundation ($38) and IT Cosmetics Confidence in a Compact ($38).
Her Top Makeup Tip
Foundation options aside, Prestidge has one pre-makeup rule she says everyone must follow, especially if softening out wrinkles is on the to-do list. “To achieve a seamless application, it is paramount to start with hydrated, plumped and lifted skin so that there won’t be as many fine lines to catch on or navigate,” says Prestidge.
Having started in the beauty industry as an esthetician, Prestidge created an all-natural skin care line that she says she created with “Jane closely in mind.” Her go-to product for instantly softening wrinkles: Prestidge Beauté Ageless Skin Serum ($125), a formula she uses on Fonda every time they work together. “It allows for a perfectly prepared canvas to begin foundation application.” If it’s good enough for Fonda, it’s more than good enough for us to add to our carts.
