NewBeauty: Why did you decide to partner with Lumity and how has it changed your skin?
Helena Christensen: “I actually found Lumity at Harrods during a trip to London last year. I share the brand’s philosophy that the body knows best and really relate to the idea that if you nourish your body on the inside, it shows on the outside. After they approached me to be an ambassador, it was my personal experience with the product along with the brand’s philosophy and clinical results that opened me to the idea of doing the campaign. After a few months on Lumity, I noticed my skin was more luminous and hydrated.”
NB: In what other ways do you promote better skin from within?
HC: I drink all sorts of juices I make myself—mixing cucumber, green and red peppers, aloe vera, parsley, mint, apple or pear. They make me feel refreshed and energized, and hopefully help to restore my skin from the inside.
NB: How do you care for your skin to keep it looking so youthful and glowy?
HC: My routine is mostly very simple: I cleanse my skin, I tone, I moisturize. Although some days I use several serums, oils, drops and moisturizers, hoping the combination will have a magical outcome. I work with and truly love Nimue skin care products; my favorite is the Nimue Skin Technology Rejuvenating Mask ($52). Another favorite is Rodin Olio Lusso Face Oil ($170). For a quick fix, though, Chanel Rouge Allure Velvet in La Fascinante ($37) is a red lipstick that never lets me down.
NB: Your grandmother recently turned 100. What’s her secret to longevity?
HC: She’s pretty unique. She’s never used anything more sophisticated than Nivea and Vaseline and she’s still one of the prettiest ladies I know! I believe that her secret to longevity comes from knowledge, wit and charm. She would tell you that at the end of the day, if you possess one or all of these, you’re smart enough to know that it’s not about exterior beauty, it’s about being healthy and just plain taking care of yourself.
NB: What’s your favorite way to stay fit?
HC: To be quite honest, I wasn’t really into exercising until I realized I wanted to feel stronger and more athletic, so I started boxing about 12 years ago. Boxing challenges your reflexes, your speed, your mind…everything. Run for an hour and a half? That’s not me at all. But I like sprinting. I just started pole dancing as well. It’s incredibly hard, like doing vertical ballet.
NB: What’s your favorite way to pamper yourself?
HC: I think good, quality sleep is one of the easiest and most important ways to pamper yourself. I can really feel the difference when I go to bed early and sleep soundly all the way through.
NB: What are the beauty items you always make room for in your purse?
HC: Adding Lumity to my daily routine has helped keep my skin nourished especially during hectic travel schedules and because the supplements come in two small bottles it makes traveling light so much easier. I also make room in my bag for Joanna Vargas Skincare Vitamin C Face Wash ($40), La Prairie Cellular Radiance Perfecting Fluide Pure Gold ($535) and Strangelove silencethesea Eau de Parfum ($475).
