Celebrity makeup artist Emma Willis counts Giuliana Rancic, Kristin Cavallari and Rachel Zoe as loyal clients. While their age and professions run the gamut, they share one thing in common: smooth, flawless-looking skin. So what’s the trick to curbing fine lines and wrinkles, especially for those over 40? According to Willis, it’s not what you thought.
“Using moisturising concealers around the T-zone area instead of actual foundation looks great and will leave the skin glowing but without that ‘makeup-looking’ finish that some women above the age of 40 don’t want or need,” she explains. The key to making concealer look airbrushed: buffing it out and using the correct formula.
Her favorite concealers for the job? “Glossier’s Stretch Concealer ($18) is fabulous for this and I love to use it—it’s almost like a tinted moisturizer! Tatcha’s The Pearl ($48) is amazing, too.”

If you find you need the coverage only a foundation can offer, Willis offers up another helpful tip that will keep skin looking youthful. “Mix some of your foundation into your favorite moisturizer, then just go back in on certain areas with your fingertips where a little extra coverage is needed,” instead of using a thick foundation all over the face.
