Hopefully, you have been planning for your big event and physically you are at the top of your game. But in the event that you are like most of us and you’re racing against the clock to get yourself ready, we have the solution! Here, celebrity nutritionist Franci Cohen provides some great tips to help you de-bloat before your big day.
Avoid Cruciferous Veggies
Broccoli, cauliflower and cabbage are just some of the culprits in the cruciferous family that you want to steer clear of the day before a big event. Cohen says, “They induce gas production in the intestines, causing the dreaded ‘belly bloat.’”

Sip on Peppermint Tea
“If you’ve looked at a box of Gas-X, the active ingredient simethicone is basically peppermint. It’s the peppermint that fights the gas and kills the bloat. It can eliminate gas almost instantly,” says Cohen.
Lemon Water
Not getting enough water? Now is the time to change that and add in a little something extra. Cohen says, “Water prevents constipation and flushes excess sodium out of the body, and adding lemon acts as a natural digestive aid and diuretic in the body.”
Get Moving
Whether you hit the gym or only have time for a quick stretch, “Exercising is great way to fight gas and bloating. Even mild stretching exercises can cause intestinal gas and air pockets to dissipate, leaving you feeling deflated with a comfortably flat tummy,” says Cohen.
Frequent Meals
“When long periods of time pass between meals, bloat-inducing and sometimes painful gas can build up in your stomach. Eating small, frequent meals not only helps to maintain stable blood sugar levels and a healthy weight, but also prevents gas formation,” says Cohen. Try eating smaller meals and packing heathing snacks in between.
