Vitamin C serum is a product that belongs in a well-rounded skin-care routine year-round. It not only helps boost the efficacy of sunscreen when layered underneath, but it also gives skin that glow we all crave. EVER Skincare Daytime Brightening Serum delivers stable vitamin C via a lightweight, quick-absorbing formula I love, and it’s good for all skin types. Here’s my honest review.
The Benefits
Vitamin C is a crucial part of my skin-care regimen, but I’m picky about the type of vitamin C and the texture of the product. This oil-serum is very light, almost like a watery liquid, and sinks right into my skin. It gives me a really nice glow, but without the grease. Additionally, it contains 10-percent tetrahexyldecyl ascorbate (THD), which is a highly stable, oil-soluble form of vitamin C. This is unlike pure vitamin C, aka ascorbic acid, which is water-soluble and oxidizes easily.
According to a study published in The Journal of Clinical and Aesthetic Dermatology, “THD ascorbate also offers superior skin penetration compared to AA [ascorbic acid], as it penetrates the stratum corneum and is intracellularly converted to L-ascorbic acid by cytosolic esterase enzymes. Clinical studies demonstrated THD ascorbate to effectively improve photodamaged and hyperpigmented skin by quenching free radicals, increasing collagen production and inhibiting melanogenesis.”
The antioxidant-rich formula is dual-phase, meaning it keeps the oil-soluble actives separate from the water-soluble ones. As a result, the actives remain stable until the serum is applied to the skin. If used daily, the serum reduces the appearance of dark spots, discoloration and fine lines. Another big benefit, courtesy of the THD, is the ability to help reverse damage done to the skin by blue light. Most of us are exposed to blue light in various ways all day long. The serum also gives the skin a smoother, more moisturized feel thanks to gently exfoliating caviar lime and moisturizing meadowfoam seed oil.
Key Ingredients
Vitamin C (tetrahexyldecyl ascorbate, or THD), caviar lime and meadowfoam seed oil
How to Use It
Shake the glass bottle well to mix the dual-phase formula. Then, apply three to six drops to your skin in light, pressing motions. Pressing it in (versus rubbing) is the best way to deliver the serum into your skin. For best result, the brand recommends applying Daytime Brightening Serum after any water-based serums, but before your moisturizer and sunscreen.
