EltaMD, the renowned sun-care brand trusted and recommended by dermatologists (and loved by celebs), is stepping up its commitment to skin health with the introduction of National Dermatologist Day. Set to debut on March 13th, this initiative aims to honor the tireless efforts of dermatologists and raise awareness about the importance of annual skin checks and sun safety.
According to the Skin Cancer Foundation, skin cancer affects more people in the United States than all other cancers combined. This statistic underscores the critical role dermatologists play in early detection and treatment.
Echo Sandburg, chief marketing officer for CP Skin Health, which includes EltaMD among its brands, emphasizes the significance of this initiative. “EltaMD is the number-one dermatologist recommended, trusted, and personally used professional sun-care brand. The derm community has elevated the brand to where it is today, and in turn, we want to help underscore how vital dermatologists are for our health.”
Through National Dermatologist Day, EltaMD seeks to celebrate and recognize the dedication of dermatologists to their profession and their patients. “We want to continue to show our commitment and appreciation to the dermatology community,” Sandburg explains.
EltaMD aims to better promote public education on skin health by funding initiatives that advance dermatology, promote public education on skin health, and emphasize the importance of regular skin checks. “Annual skin checks lead to earlier diagnoses and, in return, better survival rates, especially for those with melanoma, the deadliest form of skin cancer,” says Sandburg.
Hamden, CT dermatologist Mona Gohara, MD lauds EltaMD’s initiative, stating, “EltaMD has always had superior products that foster loyalty amongst derms, however, this gesture is a true testament to their understanding of our value as doctors, and the ultimate skin experts.” Dr. Gohara also emphasizes the importance of regular skin checks and daily sunscreen use in preventing skin cancer, praising EltaMD for raising awareness and providing effective sun products suitable for diverse skin types.
“Skin cancer is the number-one malignancy in the U.S., and it is curable if caught early, so exams are essential,” says Dr. Gohara. “We also know that 90% of skin cancers come from unprotected daily exposure to UV light, so daily use of SPF in rain, sleet, snow or shine is essential.”
Dr. Gohara says EltaMD has been a tremendous help to dermatologists and their patients “by raising awareness through their public campaigns, and also by making cosmetically elegant sun products that are suitable for a diverse group of skin types and complexions.” By creating products and innovating with inclusivity in mind, Dr. Gohara says many more patients are using SPF “because they feel seen.”
EltaMD’s National Dermatologist Day serves as a beacon of appreciation for dermatologists and a reminder of the importance of skin health. As Dr. Gohara advises, “Choose a sunscreen that you can have a long-term relationship with—not just a one-time deal.” With initiatives like National Dermatologist Day, EltaMD continues to lead the way in promoting sun safety and dermatological excellence.
