I remember being introduced to the Dyson Airwrap back in 2018, and being totally wowed when I got the tool into my own hair and realized it was unlike anything I’d ever tried before (and I’ve tried it all). It changed the way we view styling thanks to its breakthrough Coanda technology that curls and dries hair simultaneously using air rather than extreme heat, and thereby reducing unnecessary damage—it also won an esteemed NewBeauty Innovation Award. It’s a salon-caliber blowout in one tool, hence the reason the brand sold four of them every minute over the past year.
There was, however, a learning curve in order to master the art of the original Airwrap, and having to switch the barrel midway through a styling routine was doable, but not ideal. So, it comes as no surprise that the brand’s brilliant minds wouldn’t settle for less than perfect, which brings me to the big announcement: There’s a new Airwrap in the house. Meet Airwrap Multi-Styler Complete Long, which has been completely reengineered to cater to more hair types and styles.
So what’s new? The next-generation styler includes barrels in a variety of sizes that feature a rotating cool tip—it rotates left and right—which makes it faster and easier to create curls and waves around your whole head, so you no longer need to switch attachments mid-style. And, if you already own an Airwrap, the good news is that you can upgrade your existing tool with the new attachments you want (you don’t have to buy the entire set again).
Additionally, the brand-new Coanda smoothing dryer mimics the dryer/round brush combo stylists use in the salon and works in two modes: pre-style, which takes hair from wet to damp faster than the original attachment, with an improved Coanda effect that allows for more air flow; and smoothing mode, which significantly reduces flyaways for a more polished look. “I’m seeing the full ’90s blowout coming back, and this is my tool of choice for getting that voluminous look,” says Jon Reyman, global styling ambassador for Dyson. Pro tip: Make sure your hair is 80-percent dry before using for maximum retention. Lastly, Dyson is also introducing firm and soft brushes with enhanced Coanda airflow that attracts and aligns hair with increased control for straighter styles.
“Most styling tools ignore that hair types are very different—what attachment may work for one, could be detrimental to another,” says James Dyson. “The advancements in the Dyson Airwrap multi-styler build on the success of its predecessor, through relentless research, user trials and advancements in computational fluid dynamics.”
“The Dyson Airwrap is a styling revolution and unlike any other tool, back when it first launched and still today,” says Jen Atkin, global styling ambassador for Dyson. “Now, the tool does even more, allowing owners to personalize to suit their styling preferences, personalized for their hair type. You can ensure every attachment in your box delivers your desired style, specific to your hair type. Something you thought couldn’t get better, just did.”
