At 76 years old, Dolly Parton still has a youthful spirit and skin to match. Even now, if you were to zoom in on a recent picture of Parton, you’d find nary a wrinkle. Sure, the country music queen is no stranger to wrinkle-reducing injectables and other procedures to keep her body and face looking young, but she doesn’t really subscribe to lengthy, in-depth, expensive skin-care routines.
“I don’t do any big rituals with my skin or anything, and I don’t think you have to pay a ton of money to have good products,” Parton told Insider. “Most of the products that cost less are just as good and sometimes better than the ones that cost a fortune.” Even with millions in the bank, Parton doesn’t think indulging in costly skin-care products is worth it. “I don’t buy for fame,” said Parton. “I just buy the ones that work for me.”
Since an exhaustive skin-care routine isn’t what’s keeping Parton’s skin so fresh, you may wonder what is. The singer revealed to Insider that she credits avoiding the sun when she was younger for how well her skin has stood up over all these years. It seems that Parton is confirming what dermatologists have been saying for years, the sun can cause signs of early aging, from wrinkles to discoloration.
“I never got out in the sun,” said Parton. “I don’t have a lot of the same problems that women my age do ’cause I never baked myself in the sun.” However, Parton’s aversion to tanning was not for lack of desire. The star only skipped the sun because she couldn’t seem to get color. “I would’ve if I’d been able to tan, but I couldn’t, so now I’m glad!”
