“Heather Locklear does a great job at keeping her skin hydrated, which contributes to it looking healthy and youthful,” says makeup artist Collier Strong. But as skin ages, it also needs regular maintenance, such as Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) for improved texture. During the treatment, a beam of nonablative light is transmitted, infiltrating down into the tissue where it’s absorbed. The skin may feel like it has a sunburn, and in a few days will scab and fall off. “For skin that has a few dark spots and some rough texture, there’s nothing that smooths and softens like IPL,” says Miami dermatologist Flor A Mayoral, MD.

One sign of aging that begins in the 50s is a droopy brow. While Botox, Dysport and Xeomin are used to lessen the muscle action that creates expression lines, they can also be injected above a droopy brow to lift it into a more youthful position, like those of actress Julianne Moore, and stop the muscles from pulling the brow down.
Injecting Botox, Dysport and Xeomin near the temples may create a more natural-looking brow, rather than one that arches too high.

There aren’t too many pairs of lips out there that compare to the sultry pout of actress Ellen Barkin, who clearly keeps her kisser moisturized and in luscious shape.
As we age, however, collagen thins and can create vertical lines, called perioral wrinkles. These lip lines not only make you look older, but they can cause lipstick to bleed, promising a messy smooch, to be sure. Combat aging lips by exfoliating the skin, keeping them well hydrated and protecting them from the sun. If damage has been done, fractional lasers, dermabrasion and injectable fillers can help bring them back to life.

Although she’s admitted to Botox injections, sultry actress Kim Cattrall has embraced the idea of aging naturally, and without plastic surgery. Luckily, she’s got great genes that keep her looking fabulous. And maintaining the rockin’ body of a 30-year-old doesn’t hurt, either.

Actress Rene Russo has plenty to smile about, with her age-defying, youthful face. However, drooping skin around the mouth starts early on as the skin begins to thin and lose support and fat diminishes, creating deep nasolabial folds.
A mid-facelit can help eliminate some of the lines, but those lines “really need to be filled at the same time, preferably with fat,” says Pasadena, CA, plastic surgeon John E. Gross, MD. Fat is harvested from another body part through liposuction, then cleaned and treated before it’s injected into the face.

Gorgeous actress Michelle Pfeiffer, on the other hand, told Elle that she’s “all for” plastic surgery, as long as it’s done minimally. A facelift, for instance, can restore the natural curvatures of the facial features while maintaining an appropriate amount of volume in all the right places.
“A traditional facelift takes care of sagging and lack of volume by tightening up the facial muscles,” says Centennial, CO, facial plastic surgeon Brent J. Smith, MD. “It also gets rid of any fatty deposits and brings the underlying tissue back to a more youthful position, while getting rid of excess skin.”
Women in their 50s may opt for a facelift when they’ve exhausted the effectiveness of fillers and injectables, which can’t tighten sagging skin. While the results are long-lasting, you may have an altered hairline and irregular scarring.

Golden girl Christie Brinkley doesn’t look as though she’s aged at all since she was discovered in the mid-1970s. The self-described “surfer girl” keeps her long locks to a medium blond, and never looks over-bleached. She also visits New York dermatologist Patricia Wexler, MD, for microdermabrasion treatments to keep her skin glowing.
