Cate Blanchett is the latest celebrity to embrace the short bob trend. At the Armani Privé show in Paris on Tuesday, June 25, the 55-year-old actress debuted a tousled, textured French girl bob that was significantly shorter than her usual medium-length strands. Her hair, which typically falls between her shoulders and collarbone, now grazes her jawline, and it’s nothing short of chic.

Blanchett has her go-to hairstylist and colorist, Nicola Clarke, to thank for the fresh summer haircut. The beauty pro even shared her client’s new look on Instagram, posting a series of stylish photos of Blanchett with the caption, “CHOP CHOP ✂️✂️Beautiful Cate attending the @giorgioarmani #GiorgioArmaniPrivé Fashion Show FW24-25 Collection.”

Clarke’s followers quickly took to the comments section to express their admiration for Blanchett’s new ‘do. “Really stunning Nicola! Honestly, Cate has never looked better!” one person wrote. Another commented, “I’m on the ground barley breathing she looks so damn GORGEOUS.”

The Oscar winner’s decision to chop her hair into a French Girl bob is perfectly on trend.  “[The style] is effortless yet timeless,” professional hairstylist Raven Hurtado previously told NewBeauty. “It sits above the shoulders right at the jawline. Celebrity hairstylist Laura Polko also praised the French Girl bob for summer and recommended styling it with volumizing foam. “Just scrunch it in and go,” she told us in a former interview. “It’s super simple and easy but also looks chic.”

Lily Collins is a fan of the French Girl bob, too…

Blanchett is certainly in good company when it comes to her recent chop. This week, Lily Collins debuted a similarly short style at the world premiere of MAXXXINE in Hollywood. “I honestly just wanted to change things up again and surprise myself,” she said of the big chop in an interview with Vogue. “It’s not necessarily for a role.” Her new hairstyle falls just below the chin, and her hair colorist also took her brunette shade a bit darker.

“Changing my hair always brings out different sides of my personality, and I love playing around,” she added. “This cut and color feels bolder and yet somehow lighter. And completely more me—right now.”

“I hadn’t seen Lily for a while, and when she sat down in the chair, she said, ‘What’s our next look?’” the Emily in Paris star’s hairstylist, Gregory Russell, told the outlet. “We had the long hair for some time, and we did layers, bangs, face-framing…we did a lot. We thought this would be a chic switch-up.”

Clearly, there’s no better time to consider a big chop. Will you be next?
