Fall is inspiring A-list hair transformations left and right and the past week alone has given us plenty to talk about. Natalie Portman debuted a chic bob, Jennifer Lawrence went darker and brought back her iconic bangs, and, most recently, Cara Delevingne surprised everyone in the best way with micro bangs at the 2024 LACMA Art+Film Gala in Los Angeles. Somehow, she’s made the bold—and often divisive—look seem effortlessly chic and we’re obsessed.
Delevingne’s new fringe was brought to life by celebrity hairstylist and global Dyson Beauty ambassador Irinel de León. In close-up shots shared on de León’s Instagram, the model’s hair is styled in an updo that puts her ultra-short, avant-garde baby bangs in the spotlight. Teamed with bronzey glam by celebrity makeup artist Shelby Smith and a sleek, long-sleeve black cutout gown, she makes the once-intimidating haircut look undeniably chic.
Micro bangs, as hairstylist and head of product development at Goldie Locks Devin Graciano previously told NewBeauty, are “a bold, fun statement piece to add a kick of personality to your hairstyle.” (And Delevingne’s new look certainly embodies that vibe!) Though these edgy bangs have recently gained popularity, they’re hardly new. “Style always repeats itself,” noted creative director, master stylist, and colorist Paul Labrecque with Paul Labrecque Salon and Skincare Spa. “The baby bang started in the 1950s with glamour girls like Audrey Hepburn and Elizabeth Taylor.”
Feeling inspired? Celebrity hairstylist Adir Abergel previously told us that micro bangs come in a range of styles that can be tailored to suit anyone. “Whether they are cut straight across, at a curve, choppy, angled or blunt, they all can accentuate the best part of our features when done correctly,” he said. While you decide if you’re ready to book your own appointment, take a closer look at Delevingne’s new fringe below.
