It’s estimated that as many as 16 million Americans have rosacea. Luckily, there are many treatments and skin-care products out there that can help lessen the appearance of rosacea on the skin, like pulsed dye lasers. Recently, a reader asked if the Vbeam laser was a good option, so we went straight to our experts to find out.

“Vbeam is a pulse dye laser that specifically targets facial blood vessels that are present in rosacea,” Smithtown, NY, dermatologist, Marina Peredo, MD. It basically destroys or breaks apart the blood vessels that cause the redness in the skin that is associated with rosacea. This action can sometimes cause bruising.

The amount of times that you have to use it to see results depends on the severity of your rosacea, says Miami dermatologist Andrea Trowers, MD. It can take anywhere between one and six treatments to see the desired results.

It’s also very important to note that the laser doesn’t “cure” rosacea. “You can treat the redness and unsightly vessels caused by rosacea with a Vbeam and other treatments, but it doesn’t actually treat the underlying condition,” says Bay Harbor Islands, FL, dermatologist Melissa Lazarus, MD. The results from the Vbeam should last as long as you’re actually treating the rosacea as well.
