Your brows are one of the first things people see when they look at you. They can define and shape your face, adding structure, depth and dimension in one fell swoop. With that in mind, it’s easy to see why brow looks tend to linger (eyebrow lamination hasn’t budged since its debut). But the tides are shifting, and according to Melanie Marris, celebrity brow stylist and founder of Brow Code, a new wave of aesthetics is coming. As we head into 2025, the pro tells NewBeauty that the two styles poised to take over are fox tox and sun-kissed brows.
A go-to for A-listers like singer/songwriter Kehlani and supermodel Candice Swanepoel, Marris knows a thing or two about eyebrow trends. With these new brows on the cusp of becoming the season’s hottest trends, we chatted with Marris to learn all about them and get her tips on how to get the look.
Fox Tox Brows
What are fox tox brows?
Fox tox is the latest neurotoxin aesthetic to become buzzy in beauty. The procedure involves injecting a neuromodulator in a certain area of the face to raise the brows and the outer corners of the eyes, giving you a fox-like lifted look. Coincidentally, the result also creates a cool brow moment by the same name. “The fox tox look strikes a balance between drama and subtlety by giving your brows a noticeable lift that’s still fresh and natural,” says Marris. She explains that with fox tox, the brows appear snatched while the eyes look elongated and youthful.
Who does fox tox brows work for?
A lifted brow look works on everyone, but Marris notes that the particular effect of fox tox works best on those with rounder face shapes. “On oval, round and heart shapes, fox tox enhances the cheekbones and defines the jawline for a more sculpted appearance,” she says. It’s also ideal for adding structure and balancing the rounder elements of the face.
How to get the look
You don’t necessarily have to have an in-office procedure to get fox tox brows. The look is actually easy to achieve at home with the right tools. “The goal here is to achieve a lifted, elongated effect that enhances your natural brow shape,” says Marris. To do this, she suggests starting with brow basics like a good spoolie and using it to brush your brow hairs upward and outward. “This creates the foundational lift and sleek direction that defines the fox tox.”
Once your brows are brushed, you can apply a clear eyebrow gel in upward strokes to lock the hairs in place. Next comes the tricky part, as you need to define the tales of the brow. “Using a brow pencil, focus on elongating the tail of your brow, drawing it slightly upward for a foxy-like finish, and be sure to keep the strokes soft and precise. Softness is key and will help balance out the bold shape,” says Marris.
Sun-Kissed Brows
What are sun-kissed brows?
This look brings brow minimalism full circle and embraces a new style of softness. As the name suggests, the trend uses lightened brows to frame the face and give it a touch of warmth. “Unlike bleached eyebrows, the sun-kissed style offers a more natural and radiant effect,” says Marris. Bold brows are a staple that has long ruled the red carpet and mainstream beauty. Even with treatments like eyebrow lamination, the outcome is usually a deepened look. “Sun-kissed brows are more about a glowy, soft brown than harsh and overly defined eyebrows,” she says.
Who do sun-kised brows work for?
“What’s great about the sun-kissed brow trend is that it complements virtually every face shape and skin tone,” says Marris. The pro notes that lightening the brows adds dimension and enhances your eyes’ natural features, including their color and shape.
How to get the look
Achieving the sun-kissed brow look is a job best left to the professionals. Not only will this ensure that your color lasts, but that the shade matches your complexion. The process involves lightening your brows with chemicals and results in a semi-permanent color transformation. However, if you’re not ready to commit, Marris says you can still sport the trend with a lighter brow gel. The trick is to choose a shade two or three notches lighter than your natural brow color. While it won’t give you the exact look, Marris notes that it’s a great way to test how a softer, lighter brow can enhance your overall look.
