The fascination with celebrity butts, or derrières, has a rich history, punctuated by memorable moments in pop culture. From Sir Mix-A-Lot’s “Baby Got Back” to Jennifer Lopez‘s prominence in the mid to late ’90s, curvier figures have been celebrated. The 2010s witnessed a resurgence in the admiration of larger, rounder butts, with figures like Kim Kardashian influencing the standard.
The desirability of buttocks has a rich historical and cultural background. Dating back to 24,000 BC, statues have depicted exaggerated figures, symbolizing fertility. Over time, cultural obsession with buttocks has evolved, shaped by changing beauty standards and historical contexts. From the exploitation of figures like Sarah Baartman to modern-day emphasis on plastic surgery, perceptions have reflected societal norms on race, gender and beauty.
Today, the tide continues to turn, with preferences shifting rapidly towards a tight, toned posterior. Butts, like all body parts, vary widely in size and shape, and what one person finds attractive may differ from another’s perspective. However, it’s clear that modern culture is obsessed with behinds. Here, the top celebrity butts we envy the most.

13 Celebrity Butts We Envy

Sofia Vergara’s perfectly round derrière is often admired, yet maintaining such a peachy shape becomes increasingly challenging with age. The buttocks, composed of skin, fat and tissue, undergo aging processes akin to those affecting the face: natural fat atrophy and loosening skin. Consequently, the supportive structures weaken, causing the buttocks to sag over time. Various factors, including fluctuations in weight, lack of exercise, diminished skin elasticity, and genetic predispositions, all play significant roles in shaping the evolution of one’s buttocks.

What constitutes a perfect butt? Is there a golden rule for backsides? “A young buttock looks almost like a rugby ball. There is a nice round shape, good projection and a short crease that runs under the butt that doesn’t extend out too much,” says Coralville, IA plastic surgeon Al Aly, MD. Jennifer Lopez’s butt is a great example of this. “Jennifer’s buttocks are what a lot of women want when they come in for an augmentation, both in terms of size and projection,” says Dr. Aly.

Superstar Beyoncé Knowles boasts a tight, toned rump, which she can attribute to many hours of heart-pumping dancing. To reduce a large buttock, it’s all about cardio. “If your butt is too big, it’s usually due to body fat,” says celebrity trainer Ashley Borden. Cardiovascular exercises are the best for targeting excess fat in the buttocks since they work from different angles. “You want to keep your heart rate in the fat-burning zone. Try power walking on an incline, using elliptical machines with your posture upright and weight in your heels, or rollerblading,” she adds. If you feel that your buttocks are too wide, plyometric movements should be done to activate fast-twitch fibers in the legs, thereby sculpting the buttocks. “Some good exercises to try are crab walks with resistance bands, kettlebell exercises, and frog hops,” adds Borden.

Also an avid exerciser, Jessica Biel is another good example of gym dedication paying off. Borden says the key to a perky backside is to open up your quads (the thighs). “If one muscle is tight, the opposing muscle can’t ‘turn on.’ Active stretching, strength movements, and stability exercises target the glutes,” says Borden. Start with pigeon stretches, followed by 10 squats on each leg while keeping the glutes squeezed tight, and finish with instability pumps on each leg.

For maintaining a firm butt like Eva Longoria’s, low-carb and high-protein diets may be all the rage, but according to Los Angeles celebrity nutritionist and author of “Skinny Chicks Don’t Eat Salad,” Christine Avanti, low-carb diets aren’t necessarily the way to go if you’re looking to target your rear end. “The butt is primarily made up of muscle. Low-carb diets cause the body to break down muscle tissue, which can lead to a flat butt,” she says. But that doesn’t mean you should go hog wild and load up on carbohydrates either. “You want to eat a balance of proteins, carbohydrates (whole grains), and good fats like nuts and seeds,” she adds. “This way you’re saving muscle and getting rid of fat, so your butt plumps up and gets round, preventing it from getting flabby and loose.”

When diet and exercise fail to achieve the perkiness seen in Maria Menounos, butt lifts become a popular option. By lifting the tissue and removing any excess skin, your plastic surgeon can reposition your buttocks to a more youthful position. During the procedure, an incision is made starting at the back of one hip and extends around to the other. Although a butt lift does not necessarily require the use of fat or implants, it’s not uncommon for them to be used in conjunction to fully round out the desired look.

If achieving an hourglass shape doesn’t come naturally, individuals can opt for body contouring procedures to attain curves akin to those of Megan Thee Stallion. Liposuction stands out as an effective method for reshaping and enhancing the buttocks, particularly when dealing with unwanted saddlebags. Another technique frequently employed alongside liposuction on the buttocks is ultrasound-assisted liposuction. This approach utilizes ultrasound waves to initially break up and liquefy fat deposits before they are suctioned out, aiding in sculpting the desired contours with precision.

If you’re looking for less invasive options than a butt lift, or liposuction then there are other options to help you obtain a rear-end like Dua Lipa. There are quite a few different technologies available that break up stubborn fat cells, but with all of them, multiple sessions are needed and the results are not permanent. A Sculptra Butt Lift, Delray Beach, FL dermatologist Dr. Janet Allenby tells us, uses a dermal filler composed of poly-L-lactic acid (PLLA), to stimulate the body to produce new collagen in the injected areas, enhancing volume and projection in the buttocks. It is a nonsurgical option that offers immediate results and continues to improve over time.

In addition to shape, cellulite also plays a key role in how great a butt looks. Ciara has nothing to worry about, but most women deal with cellulite in the rear. Cellulite is most commonly found on our backsides because large amounts of fat tend to get stored in the butt.
Luckily, there are nonsurgical options to deal with stubborn cellulite. Endermologie is a noninvasive procedure that can be used to diminish the appearance of cellulite. Endermologie employs motorized rollers, based on the concept of deep massage, to break up fat.

To achieve a buttock comparable to Taylor Swift’s outside of the gym, Pittsburgh plastic surgeon Brian Vassar Heil, MD recommends Emsculpt Neo. “It combines two cutting-edge technologies: HIFEM (High-Intensity Focused Electromagnetic) and radiofrequency energy. It stands out as the first and only device to merge these two advanced technologies. HIFEM technology induces powerful muscle contractions equivalent to performing 20,000-25,000 sit-ups or squats in just 30 minutes, effectively promoting muscle building.” Simultaneously, radio-frequency energy heats the tissue internally, triggering apoptosis (destruction) of fat cells and leading to fat reduction. “Clinical studies have demonstrated impressive results, with up to 30 percent fat reduction and a 25 percent increase in muscle mass observed over a series of treatments.”

If you’re not blessed with a full backside like Salma Hayek, a modest Brazilian butt lift can provide assistance. Tucson, AZ plastic surgeon Raman Mahabir, MD explains, “This procedure involves liposuctioning fat from areas such as the abdomen, flanks, back, and thighs, and then transferring it to the buttocks for augmentation and reshaping. It yields long-lasting, natural-looking results.”

A butt lift can combat gravity for a perkier derrière akin to Emily Ratajkowski’s. “Removing excess skin and tightening the buttocks can lift and reshape without increasing size,” explains New York plastic surgeon Roman Rayham, MD. “This option is ideal for patients seeking lifting without additional volume.”

For those desiring a butt like Karol G’s, butt implants offer an option for augmentation. “This method allows for significant reshaping without the need for fat harvesting,” notes Dr. Rayham. “However, it involves the placement of a foreign object, which may require adjustment.” Consulting a board-certified plastic surgeon is essential for any buttock enhancement procedures.
