She’s the face of Dior beauty and has over 18 million followers on Instagram, but Bella Hadid wasn’t born with the confidence she exudes. In an interview with InStyle, the 21-year-old model opens up about being judged for her looks and sets those plastic surgery rumors straight. “People think I’m very confident, but I really had to learn how to be,” Hadid tells the magazine. She admits to feeling awkward about her “big hips” and “weird face” when she was younger, features she now embraces.

After dealing with those insecurities and being bullied over her appearance, Hadid has learned to shut out the haters as an adult. “It’s taken me a long time to learn not to listen,” she says. “I turn my phone off and remember that the people around me are the only ones whose opinions I really care about.”
Now in her twenties, the model has learned to shut out negative comments and dispels plastic surgery rumors. “People think I got all this surgery or did this or that,” she says, adding that there is one procedure she is scared to try. “And you know what? We can do a scan of my face, darling. I’m scared of putting fillers into my lips. I wouldn’t want to mess up my face.” If the critics out there have any thoughts about those surgery rumors, don’t expect Hadid to bat an eyelash. She tells the magazine that she doesn’t respond to the negative criticism: “I’ve learned that people are going to hate you and there’s nothing you can do about it except be yourself and love yourself.”
